Place was clean & tidy, Room looked like it was newly refurbished, was large and spacious. Bathroom was spotless. Only annoyance was the emergency light above the door, (possibly because room has no window). Bright green glow to the whole room all night... :-( Night porter was helpful and friendly even at 4am! He told me to park at coach area at front of property as there was no parking left at all, so I paid the £5 parking and left car at 4am sat (obviously no coaches were going to arrive after that) I went for car Sunday morning to find some plonker had left a hand written note saying they were going to report me to Police for parking in a coach space??? Even though this was advised by Britannia staff. Breakfast was very good but also very expensive at £12 !!! (Premier Inn are only £8). Apart from this my stay was excellent and would happily book again...

OK for the price.

Pros: The price was ok for a city break.
Cons: Better room service, plus stop the coach drivers from running their engines for 15 mins before they set off right next to the bedrooms at 8-00am.
Location: Near dean village, and the Leith river walk.
We found the staff in the hotel to be friendly, the room was clean, a good breakfast, value for money for a city hotel these are the plus points, the minus points are a little far out 20 mins walk from princes street and same to the haymarket rail station, also on our last night our room had not been serviced when we asked why we were told that they were short staffed, to me that is no excuse, also our room was next to the main road so we had to sleep with the windows closed.

Pros: The staff were helpful.
Cons: The cleanliness of the rooms needs a bit of attention.
Location: For a Rgby weekend it was ideal for access to the local bars and eateries also close to Murrayfield which is a bonus.
The hotel is OK for a short stay with basic accommodation - the cleaners need a bit of instruction on how to clean a room.

Out of the way but near all major bus routes

Night bar staff not interested in giving you a drink for your room even the you collect at the bar. One chap was OK other Scottish guy not interested in and lacked any form of commission other that no. 3 star service not.

Terrible place to stay

Absolutly terrible place to stay, Upon arrival we were given a room key for a room which we couldn't find as we were given the wrong instruction, on this wild goose chase to find our room we encountered all sorts. Firstly there was food allover the floors in the stairway then it began as we descended into what I can only describe as the gateway to hell. We passed through rooms with half plastered walls while other parts of the wall were just block walls there were storage areas left open and even a huge underground storage area which smelled terrible right next to our room where one member of staff was smoking. After finally getting into our room we were greeted with 2 single beds instead o te nice double room we had booked. We went back to reception annoyed to say the least but went on to what I'd call our below average at best room. as the lift doors opened we were greeted by none other than the dirty laundry basket!!! We then called the other lift an were on our way up only for the doors to open and we found ourselfs in the smallest dirtiest room with a filthy smelly mop bucket and loads of dirt. In our room the bath wasn't clean there was no shampoo in the dispenser and the room wasn't very clean. For breakfast I asked for poached eggs and a pint of water but the chef said he was to busy to meet my dietary needs and was told I can get a small glass of water over there. I'm going to Birmingham for 5 days soon and will not use ebookers again after this misrepresentation.

Good Value - For the price paid

Pros: The hotel was priced at a third of what I would have to pay for a Grassmarket hotel, so the extended walks into the city center were acceptable.
Cons: The location!
Location: The Spanish girl who guided us round the Dark Side of the City tour was very knowledgeable, extremely articulate and warmly entertaining.
The hotel was tired, in need of maintenance/makeover but the bed was comfortable and the room well serviced. Staff were friendly and helpful. I had read earlier reviews so was prepared for the worst but in fairness, for the price paid, I accepted the shortcomings. Although we didn't eat in the hotel, the offerings looked very good for the prices being asked. We used two routes into the city center from the hotel: a). Palmerston Place, Torpichen Place, Morrison St, West Port - for Grassmarket; and b). Belford Rd, Queensferry St, Lothian Rd - for Princess St. If you're not a strong walker, or are a little unsteady on your feet by the time you need to return to the hotel, the savings you make on the hotel booking will afford you a taxi, as well as the fine dining you will find in the Grassmarket area!! Greyfriars Bobby Bar's menu was particularly good at the time of our visit.
