Very nice hotel in central location

Pros: The location, the staff and the amenities including rooms were very good.
Cons: Maybe the breakfast could be improved, more bread/ rolls and fresh salad.
Location: Next to all interesting sites such as National Scotish Museum and the castle. Shopping street and center are close by.
The hotel was very comfortable and is located in a nice a quiet part of the city. Short walk to the museum and the castle. Shopping also not far away. The rooms we took were nice and also quite big, especially one of them. The beds were really great. Altogether a very good experience.

Nice hotel pretty central for everything

Pros: Friendly, choice of meals available which also included room service for meals and reasonably priced.
Cons: Rooms should be thoroughly cleaned and checked before occupancy. Glasses supplied for drinks and a hairdryer.
Location: Location was good and central for almost everything, castle was only 10 minutes walk and 15 to Princess Street, shopping is great and bus tours.
On arrival staff were very polite and friendly, our room was on 3rd floor but it had a lot of traffic noise especially early morning with deliveries for the hotel. The room itself was nice but no hairdryer or iron but did manage to get iron from reception. The cleanliness needs addressed, the long mirror was not cleaned and had hair hanging from it so did the bath. The back of bathroom door had not been cleaned apart from these few issues it was a pleasant stay. Breakfast cost another £10 each but couldn't fault it plenty choice and delicious. Hotel itself was very clean and fresh and had a very friendly atmosphere.

Dear Ruth Thank you for your review following your recent stay at The City Hotel I am pleased to read that you found the central location of the property convenient. However, I am concerned to read that you left feeling underwhelmed with certain aspects of your stay specially the cleanness in the bathroom. As hotel we do provide high level of cleanness as you can see from the most of the review, i am sorry to hear that we felt sort during your stay.We provide hairdryer in each every room in the hotel. It is placed in the top drawer of the working table underneath the TV I am very glad to read pleased to read your great comments on our friendly team, the breakfast you had in the morning I surely pass your kind comments to all the staff members for the excellent customer service you received during your stay. As with every business things can go wrong and it is only feedback good or bad that we can progress the business and give the highest level of service possible. Your review is important part of this process at Edinburgh City Hotel as it helps us to recognise where our service could be improved.. Hope to see in near future Kind Regards Sunny Verma General Manager

Nice hotel - good position

Pros: Position and comfort.
Cons: Early evening dinner menu could have a wider selection
Hotel was in good position - in the city but not too close to catch the noise. Room was comfortable and clean. Staff were attentive. Evening dinner menu covered all tastes and ws cooked and presented well.

Couples break away

Amazing hotel within walking distance of everything! Room was lovely and clean and spacious very modern nice and quiet even though our room was right at main road , definetly would stay there again great value for money , even though certain floors were being re painted while we stayed caused no inconvenience to us, staff were lovely and friendly , only downfall was shortage of towels when our first night ones were replaced and not a huge selection of beers at the 24 hour bar but these are tiny details overall would def recommend this hotel !

Ideal hotel for a weekend break

Great hotel well situated near all the Edinburgh attractions with a fantastic restaurant with amazing food. Only gripe was the small double bed.

Not as upmarket as they think they are

The hotel is in a cheap nasty part of Edinburgh and has delusions of being much more upmarket than it is. The room was described as having a double bed, but the room was too small for a double bed so they just squeezed in a 4 foot bed (double is 4 foot six) which made it cramped. The restaurant was clean enough but had very limited menu. For example the hotel special was a beef burger. For desert I chose the "Selection of Scottish Cheese" which turned out to be Red Leicester, Cheddar and Brie, none of which can remotely be described as "Scottish". Overall I'd say the hotel is mediocre at best and I was glad we only stayed one night.

Great Location, Amazing Staff!

Our room was comfortable and clean. Our flight left too early for the complimentary breakfast, but every member of staff we encountered was friendly, informative and extremely helpful. That, plus the charming hotel and central location would be enough to bring me back. My one and only complaint (and it's a minor one) is that there was no mini fridge in the room. I understand why, because the rooms are equipped with a conservation feature that turns everything off when you leave the room, so it would compromise those efforts. The staff was great about getting us an ice bucket for our water bottles, so it's all good.

Good for short stay

Nice hotel in a good location for Edinburgh castle and old town. About 10 mins walk to the castle. Recommend the full breakfast which is good value when ordered through e bookers. Staff proved very helpful. All in all good value.
