Stayed one night. Very comfortable standard room. Did not pay for a view of the castle but didn't bargain on the loud aircon fan outside the window, serving the hotel. Otherwise excellent. Didn't eat there, only a wine in the bar. Perfect location for exploring and would stay again.

Traditional hotel in the best location

Pros: The view from the room more than anything
Cons: Perhaps a few things could do with updating
Location: Right smack bang in the middle of Princes St. Location couldn't be more perfect. Everything is handy but if not, the buses and tram are on Princes St
We managed to get room 637 on the 6th floor overlooking the castle and Princes St and Scott Monument and we had a shared balcony which was just the best thing about the room!! Room average size but everything you need.. bathroom great and shower perfect with good toiletries. Tea and coffee and kettle. But the view... you need to stay on 6th or 7th floor to get the balcony... only place I'd want to stay now!!

Hotel close to amenities

Pros: Being in the middle of the city
Cons: A complete upgrade and good cleaners
Location: Xmas market and every aspect of Edinburgh which is a great city
Arrived early or room was not ready which we expected, when we got the room it was to the back and outside our window was a huge air con thing which was very noisy, the room was very dirty and dirty tissues on the floor after complaining we changed our room the next day which was better, I was most annoyed at getting the housekeeping staff knocking on your door to ask if you wanted your room cleaned I would expect my room to be cleaned every day I stay in a hotel overall would not recommend this hotel to anyone, also the toilet facilities on the first floor were disgusting when we complained all we got was sorry but the cleaner went home at 4 so they could not do anything the girl laughed and said the gents toilets are better which I did not expect that reply.

Central to all city amenities.

Pros: Central location.
Hotel central and it certainly felt like it. Very noisy. Could hear everything from rooms next door and in passage way. Did not get a good nights sleep because of thin walls.

Edinburgh city hotel

Pros: I like the position of this hotel and the view.
Cons: Mainly the furnishings in the dining room.
Location: It is on Princes Street, the Main Street in the city, close to all amenities and the railway station. There are so many things to do nearby.
The hotel is in an excellent position for visiting Edinburgh. We had a comfortable stay and a good breakfast. The dining room and bar is looking very tatty now and could do with a re-vamp. I stayed there a few years ago and it was scruffy then. However the view from this room is amazing.

Not thé usuall Mercure standard.

We often use Mercure hotels and I stayed in this hotel about 5 years ago but it is seriosly in need of a facelift. It has a superb location, excellent staff and the most amazing views but my goodness I don't think I have ever seen such filthy worn chairs and tatty carpet in any hotel. Come on Mercury. You can do better.

Great location, but unorganised.

The hotel was beautiful, very clean and in a lovely location. My room had a partial view of the Castle. I was however extremely disappointed with the reception staff. They didn't seem to know what they were doing. Chaos!! No organisation when large groups arrived and no consideration that as a single traveller, I was put at the back of the que. There should be n area set aside for large groups arriving, or a dedicated business type checkin. Restaurant staff were efficient.

hospital visit

My cousin had a consultation, at The Royal Infirmary Edinburgh and as we are from Greenock we decided to stay overnight at the Mercure, as there was three of us. We were able to get a bedroom with 3 single beds, it was really big beds were a reasonable distance apart room was very clean we had the good fortune to have a front facing room with excellent view of the castle & other beautiful building staff were really very helpful & pleasant, breakfast lovely, can't praise it enough, we had a second occasion to visit the following week and everything was as the first time, would certainly recommend this hotel
