Prime location, good value for money

Location: Perfect central location. Loads of good bars and eateries. The whiski bar restaurant is good, as is the Arcade whisky and haggis house on Cockburn St.
This was our second stay at the Waverley. It is a pleasant, clean, warm hotel in a prime location. The breakfast is good, hot, and stocked up right until the end of service. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable. Obviously you are on princess street, so some noise is inevitable, we were in a side room, which although quieter, overlooked the bins, and a dreary alleyway, so, if you don,t mind traffic noise, ask for a front facing room. This said, we would stay here again.

Excellent location, but very loud.

The hotel is well positioned for those arriving into Princes Street from the airport bus or tram, or Waverley station. The room was clean and the bathroom was fine. A good shower connection oj the bath meant there was a genuine option between shower or bath. My central issue was the old wooden framed and possibly single glazed windows. Its probably because of planning regulations, but these meant I suffered a lack of sleep over a couple of nights.

Lovely old hotel

We spent 2 comfortable nights at the Old Waverley. The room was clean, very good bed and excellent pillows. The only thing that let it down was the shower , which was quite poor, that's the downside of an old hotel with poor water pressure ( we were on the top floor). Fabulous central location, super breakfast and very helpful staff.

Delightful bijou room at the top

Small but charming room with porthole windows and great views - one side to the city and the other all the way across the Forth. Sadly, the standard was ruined by nasty plastic "glasses" in the bathroom (the sort that squash in your fingers). A proper glass for night-time water would have been nice ... Staff very cheerful and helpful, especially at breakfast. My suggestion is to get rid of baths in hotels - a walk-in shower is so much safer and easier to use (not to mention the savings in water and power) Biggest gripe - reception staff took £25 from my card beforehand - not just an impression. I should have refused, but I was so surprised I agreed to pay. The money was not returned until almost 5 days after I had left

short stay

We booked the hotel for a one night stay. Welcoming staff who though we arrived early were happy to look after our bags whilst the room was ready. Comfortable room followed by an excellent breakfast which set us up for the day. Again on departure the hotel looked after our bags until our train which was not due until later in the day. was an internal room with no view to the street but we were aware of that when booking. It may be an issue if you were staying for a few nights, but good for us as it was just a base.

Good Weekend

We were in lovely Edinburgh for the weekend attending a wedding so this hotel was perfect for us. Didn't have breakfast in the hotel so can't comment, but found a local eatery which was lovely. Hotel bit dated but that didn't worry me. We had an internal room which means no window to the outside, would definitely have preferred this if staying longer. Hotel in good position near all the sites. Staff very good room perfectly clean and comfortable. Found the tram best way to travel from the airport to the hotel - actually stopped off outside the hotel so couldn't get any closer! And at a cost of £5 very reasonable! Lovely hotel for a short break like ours.
