Beautiful common areas ..lobby and stairwells are stunning..breakfast was fab..staff are lovely..extras in suite like ghd's and coffee machine were good..large suite with view ...great bathroom and toiletries..large bath and rainfall shower...room was large but felt a bit bare and soulless which would be my only criticism of the whole place

Fraudulent hotel

Pros: Leaving it
Cons: Accurate advertising
Location: It is central
Hotel advertised itself with pool etc facilities. Upon arrival I was told these facilities were closed down as was the restaurant. Given this was the selection factor for paying such an exhorbitant amount for this dated hotel, I have been completely defrauded. Receptionists were unsympathetic when relaying the news of the lack of facilities. TO make things worse room service were ringing the door bell at 9am. All round an awful experience

average

Our room was too hot and we were unable to adjust the temperature. Very noisy when we opened the window. Staff were standoffish. Bedroom and bathroom nice and clean Great breakfast Dinner was average. My medium filet steak was fully cooked, no pink centre We were sitting near the kitchen and the heat lamps were constantly coming on and going off. One minute we were awash in light then in soft light. Don't sit near the kitchen The hotel is in a great location

Couples night.

Hotel room was roasting hot and hotel stunk of rotten eggs in the morning. The bed was tiny too. Very uncomfortable stay, I was also looking forward to treatments in the spa but the second I walked into the spa area I changed my mind, it's dull and no life or feeling of luxury at all. Half the channels weren't working on the TV either. Prob the worst hotel I have stayed in, would never ever recommend it to anyway. The staff were nice though.

Lovely Luxury Treat

The hotel was fantastic. I wanted an early check-in an to accommodate this I was allocated a different room - and a lovely upgrade. The room was wonderful. The staff were so helpful. The location was perfect. It was brilliant value in view of the upgrade. Prices in the restaurant were quite high and I decided to eat elsewhere for the evening. I paid to have breakfast the new morning and it was money well spent. Nice, relaxing environment and the food was great. My only disappointment was that the spa was advertised in a leaflet in the room but when I phoned I was told they had been fully booked for weeks. I would have preferred not to have the leaflet! I would love to stay here again. Thank you for such a brilliant break in Edinburgh

Great trip

Great stay. To be honest, for the money paid, I would either go cheaper and have something a bit less of pay a bit more and have much nicer. our room was cleaned when we were trying to get ready at 4 o'clock which was a bit late. There were around 3 male staff in the reception, not 1 ever opened the door for my partner when she went out and the doors are big, old & heavy. I think some minor changes and improvements in the small things would make a big difference to the hotel. Restaurant was very nice and would recommend the cod & scallops. Locations of the hotel is perfect. Would be better if they charged a bit more but improved service as I think this was lacking. A recommendation, porter to meet and great outside the train station to take bags as we walked up a lot of steps to get there and no one directed us to the lift. Room big and nice.

over night stay

The room (201), was lovely, bit of an obstructed view but nice big room. However, music from a nightclub kept us awake till the early hours. Not what you expect from a top rated hotel. Even budget hotels guarantee a good nights sleep. Will not use the hotel again as a result.
