Flying to New Zealand

International flights are served by seven airports, with Auckland International Airport standing out as the largest and busiest. The airport is located 13 miles south of the city at Ray Emery Drive 2150, Mangere, North Island, New Zealand. Domestic airports make New Zealand highly accessible, from Ryan's Creek Aerodrome on Stewart Island to Kaitaia Airport in the far north.

Transportation from the Airport

You can take a taxi, rent a car or board a bus from the airport to downtown Auckland. Taxi ranks are found outside the Arrivals area of the International Terminal. They charge between NZ$55 and NZ$65 for a 35-45 minutes trip to downtown. The Airbus runs every 20 minutes to the city centre, charging NZ$15 for a one-way trip. Depending on the traffic, buses take approximately 60 minutes to get to the city.

New Zealand's Climate

New Zealand's North and South Islands experience a moderate maritime climate. There is plenty of sunshine in the country, with most of it being experienced in Marlborough, Bay of Plenty, Nelson and Hawke's Bay. The rainfall is high and evenly spread all year round, averaging to between 25 inches and 59 inches. Winter is mildly cold, with the average maximum temperature ranging between 10° and 15°C. Summer lasts from December to February, and you get to enjoy sunlight up to 9 p.m. The average maximum temperature ranges between 20° and 25°C. This is the perfect time to visit if you are an enthusiast for surfing, swimming, boating, sunbathing and other water sports. However, the sunlight can be quite strong between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., and you will be well-advised to carry a hat, sunscreen and sunglasses. New Zealand is one place you can visit in any season and still enjoy a pleasantly high sunlight proportion.
