Each state has at least one airport, so wherever you fly into, you’ll be able to catch connecting flights to your destination. The most common airports for international travellers to fly into are John F. Kennedy International Airport, which is located 19km south-west of downtown New York on the I-678N highway, and O’Hare International Airport, situated 29km north-west of central Chicago on the I-90E highway. With ebookers you can book connecting flights from both these airports to other destinations within the USA.
Every major city has a well-developed transport system, so finding your way after you’ve got off your flight to the USA shouldn’t be any trouble at all. From JFK International, you can take the AirTrain JFK which runs into downtown New York in about 60 minutes, and the fare is $7.50. The AirTrain also travels around the airport for free, which is helpful when transporting your luggage around the terminals. You also have the option of taking one of New York’s iconic yellow taxis from the taxi stand at the airport, which takes around half an hour and costs a flat fare of $52 to Upper Manhattan. Car hire is available at the airport. At O’Hare Airport, you can catch the ‘L’ train into the downtown Chicago loop which takes you to every point in the centre. This takes 25 minutes and costs $2.25. The number 330 Pace bus will take you from the O’Hare Transfer sector of the airport into downtown Chicago for $1.75 with a journey time of 25 minutes. There are car hire companies at the airport too, with a free shuttle bus service to take you from the terminal to the car.
The weather in the USA varies widely according to the location and time of year. Cities on the East Coast, such as New York, tend to have long, hot summers and fairly cold winters with some snow. Depending on your tastes, New York is great to visit any time of year, with winter temperatures generally hovering around freezing and summer temperatures reaching 25-30˚C, but bear in mind that summer here can be quite humid. Chicago, located in the Midwest, has a highly variable climate, and winter can last into April. Late summer or autumn is perhaps the best time to visit, as you will have the summer temperatures with less of the humidity. If you are heading to the West Coast the summer gets hot with temperatures ranging from 25-30˚C; areas like Los Angeles enjoy much milder winters with temperatures ranging from 10-20˚C.
Where shall we start? There are areas of amazing natural beauty here, such as the Grand Canyon in Arizona, Niagara Falls in New York State and the Everglades in Florida to name but a few. The typical tourist attractions include the Disneyland resorts in Florida and California, which are fantastic for family holidays, and the world-famous monument of the Statue of Liberty. Tourist attractions abound wherever you go in the USA, so make sure to find out what there is to see and do on your holiday to make the most of your time in the country.
