Holidays in Havana

Of course, it's not just the sights that make up a city — there's also the people who call it home. Here, you'll find 2,200,000 of them.

From here, it's approximately 19 miles to the east to Jaruco and 20 miles to the east to Santa Cruz del Norte.

If you're travelling with the entire family, outings to Maqueta de la Habana and the ExpoCuba will most definitely be popular. If you're hunting for even more fun and excitement, Isla del Coco and the Cinematógrafo Lumière are a couple of additional options.

Our deep blue oceans are chock-full of all kinds of aquatic species. At National Aquarium, you have the chance to examine some of these slippery animals up close.

Want to encourage your kids’ curiosity about the world of wildlife? Take them on a trip to the Havana Zoo, where they’ll learn about what an animal enjoys eating, the types of sounds it makes and much, much more!

Round up your mates and head on over to the La Factoria Brewery for a round or two. Their range is deliciously enticing, so make sure you free up at least a couple of hours!

Whether you're curious about the local plants and flowers or just want to take a bit of time to explore the many pathways, you're sure to enjoy time spent at the National Botanical Garden and the Jardín Botánico Nacional.

When you need some time out from the fast pace of the city, head to a green space like Parque Antonio Maceo or John Lennon Park. Alternatively, get some exercise and keep the kids on the go by roaming around Parque Almendares or Parque Lenin.

No getaway is complete without some time at the seaside! Rally up the kids, grab a Frisbee and enjoy some real downtime at El Salado Beach or Santa Maria del Mar Beach. You can also go for a lazy walk along Boca Ciega Beach and Guanabo Beach.

Ready for a thrilling adventure in the outdoors? Enjoy a bit of peaceful time surrounded by the fresh air and incredible landscapes of Parque Zoológico Nacional or Parque Escaleras de Jaruco.

Ask the helpful staff at the Partagas Factory or the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes about special events. With so many enthralling exhibits, you'll want to ensure you don't miss anything. The Napoleonic Museum and the Ernest Hemingway Museum are also leading options for museum enthusiasts.

We're not quite sure how the National Museum of Natural History and the Gabinete de Arqueologia have managed to jam-pack so many of earth's fascinating treasures into just two spaces. A stop at either will captivate you for hours on end. For even more exhibits from the natural world, visit the Museo Nacional de Historia Natural.

In a destination overflowing with wonderful art exhibitions, the Museum of Colonial Art and the Galería Provincial Eduardo Abela manage to stand out from the rest. More bright canvases and sumptuous sculptures can be found at the Galería de Arte Amelia Peláez and the Museo de Artes Decorativas.

Calling all history buffs! You'll love discovering the rich and captivating past of this area at the Museum of the City of Havana and the Casa Natal de Jose Marti. Also check out eye-opening displays which bring the past to life at the Museo Nacional de los Comites de Defensa de la Revolucion and the Museo de la Ciudad.

Keen to know more about Havana's past? Don't forget to visit the Jose Marti Memorial and Necropolis de Colon. If you're hungry for more, El Capitolio and Los Tres Reyes Del Morro Castle should also be on your itinerary.

Intrigued by military history? Enjoy an excursion to Castillo de San Salvador de la Punta and La Cabana and find out about their roles as defensive strongholds along with the fate of those who fell defending them. El Morro and Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña have also withstood many clashes throughout their time.

Palacio del Segundo Cabo and Palacio De Los Capitanes Generales have housed a number of Havana's most well-known people over the years. But lo and behold, they aren't the only fantastic abodes you'll stumble on in Havana. Palacio Velasco and Palacio de Los Condes de Santovenia are also worth a visit.

Live like a king or queen, even if it is just for a moment, at Castillo de San Carlos de la Cabana and Castillo de los Tres Santos Reyes Magnos del Morro.

Looking to add a little spirituality to your stay? Check out Santuario de San Lazaro and Havana Cathedral. San Francisco Church and Santa Clara de Asis Convent are also on the must-see list of many spiritually curious travellers.

They probably aren't on the front page of your guidebook, but Marina Hemingway and the Centro de Arte Contemporneo Wifredo Lam are still well worth dropping by. You could also take a look around Calle Obispo and Av de los Presidentes.
