    Beautiful grounds

Very pleasant and beautiful grounds. Food is very expensive (breakfast and dinner), and there were a few complaints from other customers regarding the food. Not a great selection for vegetarians or vegans. Overall a good stay for a business trip.

    Nightmare Stay

I booked into Shendish Manor to stay over while on business. First impressions were good and had a very enjoyably meal. Unfortunately, my experience turned very bad very quickly. Shortly after going to bed and falling asleep, I was woken just after 11:30pm by guests from an event treating the rooms and corridors around me as a night club for scummy people. First call to reception to complain about the noise resulted in no improvement. Called half an hour later. I could not believe the response I got. I was told I could pack up an move to another room, this was not acceptable, it was NOT myself who behaving in an a completely antisocial manor and disturbing all the other guests. In addition, it would have made no difference since the people were just moving round the hotel. I made it clear something had to be done, but the response was that it was just himself and he could not do anything, What!!! I made my feelings very clear. This time the noise did reduce, but only for about half an hour, then trouble continued yet again. All further calls to reception went unanswered. I was kept awake till after 3am!!!!!!. So much for a relaxing hotel. I was completely astounded by clientele the hotel was attracting. I experienced extremely loud, foul mouth language, banging on doors (including mine), shrieking and bawling women. If the hotel is going to court such people, it should either put a warning on it’s web site, or employ proper security to stop yobs disturbing other guests.

    Would definitely recommend this hotel

We checked in late after 10pm. There were two party’s in the hotel at either ends so there was a fun, Christmas atmosphere. Our room was upstairs and away from the noise, very clean and quiet. In the morning we had a cooked breakfast from the buffet and my partner requested vegetarian sausages. They brought out three for him, freshly cooked.

Lovely old house but seen better days. Large rooms, worn fittings and carpets. Could be great with some investment. Staff friendly. Menus quite limited. Convenient for Watford if you do not want to stay in town. Grounds looked very nice but weather too wet to explore.
