We absolutely loved our stay at Kerrowdown Mill - the place was much bigger than we anticipated (even bigger than our actual home!), very clean, and in a beautiful area. We enjoyed the walk to Drumandrochit (nearly a mile) because we got to see beautiful views of Loch Ness, pass the Ness Museum and Nessieland, and see some wee Highland Coo's! The road is private, and everyone we passed was very kind. We lucked out and only saw a small rain at night so we could enjoy it from the deep and beautiful windows in the cottage. We loved the location for a relaxing stay while feeling out in the country, with a town nearby to explore!
The cottage is decorated beautifully and full of comfortable furniture. We immediately felt at home, and had no issues with comfort. The bathtub in the double bed room is rather large, and the shower in the twin bed room is actually the entire room! We had a bit of an issue with plumbing while we were here (low water pressure in the toilets for flushing and some issues with getting the water to flow properly in the shower for a decent shower time), but Alan and Cami were very responsive, helped us with the issues, and were planning on having a plumber out the day after we left to fix those issues for future guests. The issues were all easy to work around as well, and did not negatively impact our stay.
The kitchen is well and fully stocked with everything you could need to cook a nice meal (though the grocery store is a bit of a walk so be prepared if you decide not to bring a car!) The house was also well stocked with blankets, toiletries (shower gel, shampoo, sewing kit and cotton swabs), and tea/coffee/sugar. We loved that there was a dishwasher as well, so that we could just run the dishwasher when we left instead of taking time on our vacation to clean.
We recommend eating at Fiddlers and the Ness Cafe (the fish chowder!). We easily walked to Urquhart Castle and Divach Falls and enjoyed the views of the highlands and Loch Ness the entire time we walked. Everyone in town was very kind and welcoming. We highly recommend Loch Ness Cruises aboard the Nessie Hunter - the most informative and interesting tour of Loch Ness, including details about the history of Nessie and Urquhart Castle from one of the most informed men on the entire loch, who even had an area of the Loch named after him.
Thanks for a beautiful stay Alan and Cami! We will be telling all of our friends about your gem of a cottage to stay in.
