This property is in the same group as The Westcliffe Southend & it seems apparent that the owners are not putting anything back into the property as is Southend To name a few : 1 Weeds grow up between slabs outside in the garden 2 Furniture in the rooms do not match & it is at least 30 years old with badly supported sofa heavily coated dust on the lights Patio furniture that is faded & run down Carpets stained. Rotten window frames too 3 The bathroom has heavily soiled grouting with a badly soiled toilet as well as being very dated Just needs bleeching 4 The restaurant in the evening was well staffed by very polite & efficient staff Our food was superb The breakfast staff were lead by a lady who I found to be brash & rude. I asked for some brown sauce & I was curtly told its on the side over there although she did get it begrudgingly. 5 The decor in the restaurant is very outdated as well as the whole hotel 6 The reception staff were helpful & friendly after an initial glitch 7 The lockers in the spa are run down. A lot had keys missing or wristbands removed These are just some of the things we encountered. This hotel seems as though it is being run into the ground so that developers will eventually bulldoze & rebuild houses.

Thank you for your feedback. We can assure you that the owners do care and are doing things to improve the standard of the property. We have completed room refurbishment to 50 of our rooms and our restaurant and bar area will be revamped by the beginning of 2020. We have noted your comments about the breakfast staff and the person will be dealt with.

Convenient

Pros: Character. Loved the furniture in reception and hallways.
Cons: Heating turned down
Location: Location was good for us, as we were going into Ipswich for a show.
Nice oldie world hotel. Staff friendly, especially breakfast waitress. Bed a bit to hard. Hotel heating to hot. Facilities looked good although we did not use, as we were only there 1 night. Overall good value for the money.

Potentially excellent hotel

Pros: The quiet location. The pool was fabulous. The opulence of the entrance and landings.
Cons: The bathroom needs to be refurbished (Room 415)
This is a really good hotel which in many ways punches above its weight. Sumptuous entrance, complete with romanesque statues, trickling water fountain, marble entrance... and absolutely gorgeous swimming pool/jacuzzi/steam room/sauna. The room was comfortable and this is a (very) rare hotel in Ipswich without any traffic noise! The bathroom was very dated and in need of a refurb - however, it was adequate.
