Free, off-street parking available. Huge family room with tea & coffee making facilities. Friendly French staff. Breakfast was plentiful. 10/15min walk to Southport centre. Excellent value for money

Ideal for the Lib Dem Conference

Pros: The friendliness and welcoming atmosphere.
Cons: I'd prefer not to have carpets in the bathroom.
Location: Southport has a fair few things to do (including, apparently, a lawnmower museum which we didn't see). It's a great place to stay for a few days.
We were looking for somewhere to stay for the LibDem conference in Southport which wasn't going to cost a fortune. We booked well in advance and got an exceptionally good rate, which enabled us to stay a couple more days, especially as breakfast and car parking were included. On arrival, we rang the bell and were warmly welcomed - I confess to being slightly worried what we might find, but on getting to our room (7), we were rather impressed. The hotel doesn't set itself out to be the Ritz, and of course a few things could be improved. One thing I'd change in the room is putting a bedside cabinet next to the bed, rather than the drawers. OK, the bathroom has seen better days, and I'm not fond of carpets in bathrooms, but it certainly isn't a deal breaker. We certainly made use of the teapot, something seldom seen in hotel rooms these days! Rather randomly the room contained a chaise longue, adding to the character. The hotel is about 10-15 minutes' walk from the conference centre, and being Southport, about 30 minutes from the beach (even the "promenade" is nowhere near the actual beach - no hotel would really be able to give a sea view!!!!) Breakfast is hearty enough - the hot breakfast was more than enough to keep me going and there's a range of continental breakfast items - including a couple of nods to a French breakfast such as Nutella and brioches. Overall, it did what it said on the tin and we had a very pleasant stay.

Good one stop hotel

Off the bat, the owners were friendly and welcoming, and happy to talk. The breakfast spread was very good, in the eclectic setting of the dining room. The room was fair, a good place to lay your head after a long day, but in need of a little TLC. Parking is a premium and could be problematic if the small space is full, however wasn't an ussue with early departure. It's unfair to overly criticise this hotel. Purists may not enjoy it's style and approach, altho for cost paid alternatives may have proven slightly better value. Do not discount this hotel, but do not expect "premier inn" uniformity.

Comfortable relaxing hotel

Pros: Convenient for southport, free parking and wifi, lovely hosts. As a single female it is a very safe environment.
Cons: Nothing ,leave well alone, if people don't like it they can go somewhere else and leave room for us that appreciate the ambience and quiet.
Location: Near southport ,information in each room on local facilities
I last stayed about 5 years ago. Owners still there,so welcoming and kind nothing is to much trouble. Comfortable room with all facilities including breakfast I love the coffee,absolute bargain. A lovely friendly relaxing place to stay,with parking. Thanks to everyone at balmoral lodge. Will be back!

Pros: The owners were exceedingly helpful and welcoming.
Cons: Some of the decor was fine but tired.
Location: Centrally located for the sea front.
Typical English seaside hotel but has the feel of a French village hotel. I had a double room which gave me plenty of space to work, tea facilities and it was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was excellent, with a wide choice of hot and cold goods. Evening meals are available in the restraruant. I would stay here again.
