Below par Best Western

Pros: Breakfast good. Good facilities (in midst of refurb). Great location - behind the main street and opposite the boating lake and gardens.
Cons: Beds and pool (being refurbed, to be fair)
Location: Ideal location - central to everything, lake, gardens, pier, shops and restaurants..
If you get it at a good prcce, it's okay. Staff were accommodating and friendly. Breakfast was good, well cooked, choice good. Furnishings a bit dated, but nothing wrong with that. Except for the bed, shockingly bad. Cheap, coil sprung and tired and uncomfy. Had bits sticking in to my hips. Expect better beds from BW - jeez, the Travelodge use Hypnos beds for goodness sake! Not standard BW material we think - but seaside places often are like this. And it's a victorian building, so we didn't mind the blend of new and old. They are refurbishing it seems, so could get better. But beds are the core of the offering - so that needs sorting first. Clientele definitely older - there was a singer in the lounge when we arrived! So, great for some!! Ona good bargain we probably would stay again but would check bed immediately and ask to be moved if it was as bad as before...

Location: great for walking plenty of shopping there is a cinemas and restaurants near the hotel prom just over the road; were there is a fun park for the kids,
the staff was very friendly the hotel was great love old buildings. food was good, Nothing was to much trouble from your staff, enjoyed our stay, will come back.

Perfect location

I had booked 2 rooms to attend a family event. After reading some reviews I was nervous. The hotel has some lovely traditional features it just needs a revamp. The rooms were perfect for our needs. Very spacious and clean. Definitely recommend.

Good position for our needs

I stayed for one night to attend a family function in Southport. After Reading the reviews I was very nervous. I needn't have been. Easy parking and check in. I had booked 2 rooms and both were large and spacious and suited our needs perfectly. The hotel is large with lovely traditional features. It is in need of a revamp in places but is perfectly adequate until this is done. I would definitely stay again and recommend it to friends..Other family members had stayed at another hotel and paid much more for a tiny room.!

Old lady

Pros: Sadly only the location can be recommended.
Cons: The hotel is in need of a total overall and requires massive investment to brig it back up to date and standard.
Location: Location is good for the front and easy walking access for Lord Street and shopping.
A once magnificent hotel in its day, now tired and lacking investment. Room was basic, dated , cold and not particularly clean. TV fell of its badly repaired stand. Heating was not working and according to the handyman hadn't in that room for some time. However the onus was on us to request a portable heater, which barely took the chill off the room. We dined once in the evening and were disappointed with the quality and price of the food, be careful on the 2 or 3 course set meal there were a number of added supplements / costs? Car parking was additional at £5 per night. All in all not very impressed and will certainly not be returning and or recommending to others.

Convenient for a short stay

Pros: See above
Cons: Rooms need updating
It was an average hotel. Our room had everything we needed but the bedside tables had a lot of tea cup ring stains which gave a poor view of upkeep. The bathroom was very dated with a dirty bath on the second day. The sheets were of good quality but the beds were hard. I found the hotel very peaceful at night. We did not use the restaurant facilities so cannot comment on that but we enjoyed the spa.

ok for an overnight stay

This hotel is grand and beautiful, the public areas are very nice old but in good condition, the rooms are tired and need some investment that said we had a good nights sleep and everything in the room worked. Tip visit the shopping arcade next to Beals department store, great shops and a beautiful area to sit and have a coffee.
