The hotel was modern and clean, the staff were very friendly. However, we were startled when a loud, distressing and disorientating alarm awoke us in the early hours. As we began to prepare to evacuate we realised that the alarm was coming from our safe in the room. I went to reception to inform them and they said they would send somebody to take a look. By the time I had returned to the room the alarm had stopped. When the member of staff arrived they informed us that it was a leak sensor on the safe which had triggered and suggested that it was caused by us using deodorant (we had been asleep). We were told to leave the window open and hopefully it shouldn't happen again. The room was now too cold to sleep so we decided to gather our things and check-out. We were asked if everything was alright with our stay so we mentioned the alarm again. We were told that the alarm was there 'for our safety'. As an apology we were allowed to store our bags in the luggage room at no charge (normally £6).
