dated hotel currently being renovated

Was put into a dated room with no windows due to scaffolding. The temperature inside did not go under 25 degrees C (I checked). Made a comfortable night of sleep impossible. My request to switch rooms was denied. Staff is very friendly, hotel is 2min away feom covent garden, did not eat at the hotel or use any if the facilities.

Dear Guest I am sorry to read you were disappointed with the view from the room during this stay. We are currently in the process of a long-term strategic improvement plan for our Hotel and we are paying a great deal of attention to enhancing the existing rooms, aesthetically, technologically and physically. As part of this project we do have contractors working on the outside of the Hotel; due to this, we have restricted the view for some of our guests to ensure complete privacy. We are doing everything possible to keep disruption to a minimal with works being completed outside of our busiest hours, however I understand this does impact on the view whilst these rooms are in use. I am sorry we were unable to offer you any alternative rooms but this was due to availability. Kind Regards Patrick Baptist Hotel Manager

Great central hotel

Pros: Location
Cons: Prices
Location: Too many to mention. Very close to Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Embankment and of course...theatres!!!!!
We have stayed here 5 or 6 times. Nice to receive a Strand Palace VIP card with bottle of red wine. Card have us 10% off restaurants and bars. However, we had breakfast which cost £37!!!!! No discount allowed at breakfast. Disappointed. Booked a cosy room as prices have shot up over last year or so, making the stay expensive - still £640 for three nights. Staff lovely, house keeping brilliant, thanks to Strand Palace.

Unfriendly and going thru motions

Pros: It’s location
Cons: I doubt, my constructive criticism would be of any value, so I will pass on this one
Location: Boots nearby, walking distance to most of the attractions and plenty of dining options around.
It was brisk and professional, but guest relations a disaster. There was no attempt to accommodate snow stuck guests. I tried to extend my stay, but was rudely advised to check online, if i was looking for the same rates, as i had pre paid for my three nights and at the departure no thank you or good bye or the basic courtesy. I stayed here before, but will not ever stay here.

Dear Guest, Thank you for reviewing the Strand Palace Hotel. I do apologise that you were dissatisfied with the service received. All bookings that are booked with a third party company cannot be extended by staff at the Hotel, this would need to be done as a new booking. It is for this reason that we advise guests to check online with the agent that they booked with as they may offer a better rate. Kind Regards, Holly

Ideal location close to Covent Garden

Pros: The staff were extremely friendly
Cons: The bedrooms were only small but it’s what we expected for London
Location: The location was ideal as had theatres tickets for the Savoy opposite the hotel.
We arrived early & intended to just drop off our luggage at the hotel, so was delighted when all our rooms were available. At check in I was advised that a couple of the available rooms had scaffolding outside so if I wanted to wait to check in later they could allocate other rooms without the scaffolding. The scaffolding did make the rooms dark, however we were only staying the one night and the extra fee hours we had in london as a result of the early check in made it worthwhile .

Hotel not as good as it used to be

Check-in man not very nice, room far away on side of hotel wtih scaffolding and building work going on outside .Only two lifts for this big hotel. At times long waiting times to ascend. Interior drab, walls brown and carpet in corridors stained. In room no drawers for storage. No wardrobe, only a clothes rack.No glasses in bathroom. The cleaner took a bottle of wine that I had in my room, but I came just in time to get it back. I have stayed in this hotel several times before and had no complaints then..don't know what's happened Good polnts location and copious breakfast, although very poor chioce of bread...
