Lovely looking hotel and entrance. Very small room, not like the picture advertised. Room looked like it had been rushed, hair on bed, no bin bags in bins. Snack box thrown together. Breakfast was lovely.

A large hotel within walking distance of Manchesters shopping area. Converted Victorian insurance head office makes it an interesting building. Staff were most helpfull. No air conditioning on a hot night meant leaving the windows open and the noise from the hotels lounge meant a difficalt nights sleep as it continued after 1.00 am. This spoilt the stay over the weekend.

Excellent hotel, but a few niggles

Pros: The Art Deco character of the building has been skillfully retained. Its a beautiful building
Cons: Breakfast service! Wow, whats a shocker.
Location: About 15 mins walk from the Arndale centre, although we didn't take the most direct route. Positioned opposite the Palace Theatre and Oxford Rd stn.
First the good points. The hotel itself is an amazing piece of architecture. Its recently been redecorated and modernised, but the art deco detail has been carefully retained. We had a deluxe double room, which was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was also spacious and featured a superb 'drencher' style shower which took a bit of working out as it had three valves plus the temperature control. Once mastered, it was invigorating to use. We loved it. The towels are changed daily and the usual shower gel etc are provided. We stayed for an evening meal which included various tapas style dishes and a bottle of wine. The food was delicious, the serving size just right, and the staff were excellent. We then moved to the bar and had numerous gin cocktails. Apart from the queueing (the bar is open to the public) it was also very good. A bit noisy but enjoyable once we had found a seat. The bad bit. Breakfast was a disaster. At £16/each I was expecting so much more. The food was barely warm, half the cooked food had run out and took a long time to be replenished, and the plates weren't cleared away from our table between courses. It was a shocker. The only redemption was that the food itself was high quality. Nevertheless I'd only give the breakfast service 2/5. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will be returning, but if the breakfast service is as poor next time I'll be quite vocal about it, which is a shame as the evening service was superb and very polished.

Well placed in central Manchester.

Pros: The staff were charming, pity only tapas being served. A very beautiful hotel.
Cons: Dining room food choice.
Location: We had to find a decent place to eat, and found a superb Italian restaurant nearby.
I stayed in the hotel with my thirty six year old son. Even he absolutely hated the loud music throughout the downstairs at night. It was absolutely unnecessary, you could not speak to friends whilst dining and most of the facilities were empty due to the dreadful racket. Please don’t turn a glamorous hotel into a rave party.

Very close to the train station, nice quiet area.

Me and a friend stayed 2 night for my birthday weekend, couldn't be happier with the service and the staff, they go above and beyond.

Nice hotel, good location, brilliant staff

Stayed for a single night. Hotel staff were great. Rooms were nice, however could really do with 100% cotton sheets as they were a bit rough. But I know I'm a bit of a snob on that front, and I've never stayed at a hotel with bed sheets that are as soft as mine at home!
