Hotels of Munich
Munich has most of the well-known hotel chains with all of them offering conference facilities, including the Sheraton, Hilton, Holiday Inn and Sofitel. In addition, there is the new hi-tech International Congress Centre that hosts up to 12,000 guests, along with the Hanns Seidel Centre right in the centre of the city.
The Restaurant Dallmayr is run by Michelin-starred Diethard Urbansky and serves an eclectic mix of food, highlighting delicacies from the famous delicatessen below. Eating Italian in Bavaria might sound a little odd but Munich has some excellent Italian restaurants with Limoni, Due Passi and Vinaiolo being the best.
There are fewer places on Earth more famous for their markets than Munich with the Viktualienmarkt (food market) being the largest, it is a day out in itself. The Christmas Market is just as much fun and is set in the wonderful Marienplatz from the end of November up until Christmas. Best buys in Munich include sweets, beer and designer wear. There is a huge range of shopping opportunities on the doorstep of your Munich hotel.
Major Points of Interest
The National theatre where several of Wagner's works premiered, the Schloss Nymphenberg, home of Bavarian Kings, is more of a palace than a castle and very beautiful. There are several world-class art museums found in Munich, including the Museum of BMW cars.
Although other sports do exist in Munich, and the 1972 Summer Olympics were famously held here, the sporting landscape belongs almost exclusively to Bayern Munich, which is the greatest German football club and one of the biggest in the world, in terms of success and annual sales. The Allianz arena, the joint home of Bayern and 1860 Munich, can hold 71,000 people.
