Great base for trip to the big apple

Had a great time right in the middle of the action. Not hotels fault but hotel is next to a fire station so you need to get used to sirens at a regular basis. Would go back to hotel

Great location

Great location but if you are overlooking 7th Ave it's very noisy and the windows don't block the noise

Well past its best

Room was large but looked a bit grubby - shame they couldn't have designed a bigger bathroom. It was quite cold and we didn't really feel comfortable. It's ridiculous that they have free wi-fi in reception but very few seats, so people were sitting on the stairs. I know NY is expensive, but this wasn't so great for the money.

Great location and really nice hotel

We are going to NYC every year and since 2007 we always stay at this hotel. It's a brilliant location only accross the road from Penn Station with access to Subway/NJ transit/LIRR. Staff is really friendly and the interior have been recently completely re-done.

Forgettable

Good location BUT no one mentions fire station about block away , sirens all hours ( appreciate job to do) but did impact on nights sleep. Had a refit but real " smoke & mirrors " e.g. Paint but expensive things like tiles not touched. Shower was incredibly small & toiletries the refill type , don't expect in 4* Very average hotel ,not chose to return

So convenient for everything

Starting with an easy transfer in from JFK on the Airtrain to Jamaica and then LIRR to Penn Station you arrive 200 yards from the hotel in about 40 mins. (Buy a combined LIRR and Airtrain ticket just before you go through the barrier at Jamaica - get the cheaper City Ticket if travelling at the weekend). Hotel is right opposite Madison Square Gardens and 2 blocks from Macys and all the 34th St stores. Great for shopping. Breakfast at the Tick Tock Diner on 8th and 34th was a good first morning then we did the Statue of Liberty boat trip. If you want to go up the statue crown, book a couple of months in advance. B&H camera & video store on 9th and 34th is amazing if you like that stuff. Closed Saturdays. Wine hour (free!) from 5-6 every evening makes the lobby a friendly place and is nice at the end of a busy day in the city. We really liked the hotel. PS. you can shop online and have it delivered to the hotel and housekeeping will look after it.

Affinia Manhattan

We booked to celebrate our Silver Wedding Anniversary in a deluxe room. I had read the reviews and was not sure what to expect. We arrived earlier than our check in time, but were welcomed immediately and we had been upgraded to a deluxe room with a terrace. We were on the 26th floor. Lots of lifts, didn't ever have to wait too long for one. Staff were extremely helpful all of the time, and concierge happy to help when needed. Reviews said the carpets were threadbare, which to be fair, they were on the upstairs landing. But in the room, which was very comfortable and clean, the carpet was fine. We had a very spacious room, with a really comfortable queen size bed. Rooms were serviced daily. Our room also had a sofa and chair and coffee table, and another part of the room sectioned off which contained a fridge and desk. The location was perfect. Streets are numbered, and this hotel is on the corner of 31st Street. Times Square is on 42nd, so it was a short walk away. There was so much to see and do in the area, and the subway was right across the road to get around New York. We loved it!!!

Mother and daughter holiday

Excellent hotel in a perfect location within walking distance to Times Square, Broadway, Empire State, shops and restaurants. Courteous, helpful staff and the complimentary wine hour was a nice touch. The room was huge and had everything we needed e.g. safe, TV, hairdryer and the most comfortable beds. We had breakfast one morning in Niles and we couldn't fault it at all. All in all a wonderful experience.

Not bad but could be better

Looks like the entrance area to the Hotel has been refurbished, but our room looks like it had seen better days. The bathroom area reminded me of a BB I stayed in back in the 90's in Blackpool, England. It looked as if it had been a wardrobe area which had a shower, toilet and sink installed. Then a sliding door put on as the access. It really did and my wife and I both mentioned this to each other as we discovered it. Other than that it was nothing out of the ordinary a bog standard room in a bog standard hotel. Thankfully it was only for one night. Had it been longer then I might have jumped from my 6th floor window, had I managed to prise it open.
