Great location.

Pros: We were in the top attic room which I loved as it was private and very chic. The bed was really comfy too!
Cons: Can't fault it at all. The staff were on hand for all your needs, and everything was spotlessly clean.
Location: We booked because we were going to a wedding up the road. We then decided to visit dunster castle the next day which was only a 5 minute walk.

One of our best hotel stays

Pros: Everything
Cons: Work is in progress to get things up to the proprietors' high standards
Location: Plenty to do in the village - assuming good weather.
This hotel has a great central location in Dunster, very close to the castle’s pedestrian entrance. Dunster is a delightful medieval village; there are plenty of interesting places within an easy walk of the hotel. The hotel had been open for a few weeks; we had a most enjoyable one-night stay and didn’t really notice some things being work in progress. We accepted an upgrade to a larger room and did not regret the supplement. The Avill room was spacious, clean and comfortable with an enormous bed. Our two meals at the hotel were superb. Notable were the scallops with roe and lamb ballotine on the Sunday lunch menu, and - at breakfast - the smoked salmon (thick chunks) and scrambled egg (made with double cream) option. The hotel’s car park has space for about 15 cars - after negotiating the very narrow archway; not sure if residents (there are 8 bedrooms) would be able to get into the carpark if the restaurant/bar were busy with non-residents. John and Lisa are the marvellous new proprietors; they made us very welcome, they employ good staff, nothing was too much trouble and on the strength of our visit they deserve to succeed. They truly emphasised the difference from a chain hotel where the staff are indifferent.
