A bit of a disaster

As you would expect this hotel is situated in a very good location, very close to the Abbesses and Blanche Metro stations. I love this area of Paris. However, I was very disappointed with the hotel. Upon arrival we were greeted by an unbelievably rude woman. Our mistake was arriving at the advertised check in time of 1400hrs and were promptly shouted at to return later; they didn't care what's on your booking form, it's 'their' rules that they follow. My wife is French, I'm British, so there was definitely no lost in translation issues. We had booked a double room. It was very small. It was located on the third floor and next to the elevator and surprisingly it wasn't too noisy. Although this is supposedly a 3 star hotel with ensuites, of all the 30 rooms only four have showers, so be warned!! As I have a bad back I asked if there were other rooms available but they shouted there were no others. So, if you don't mind crouching in a bath, in a not too pleasant small bathroom, with a small hand held shower head then this shouldn't be an issue. As described the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, which we obviously didn't expect but we wish we had air con because it was soooo hot! The bed sheets were very strange, a sort of shiny/noisy material that stuck to you so it made the sleep very uncomfortable. The room was very small, albeit clean, and there was no advertised mini-bar either. What sounded like water flooding was actually other toilets in the hotel being flushed; imagine buckets of water being poured, that's what it sounded like. We left our bags there after checking out and the horrible woman said it's not her fault if they get stolen. True, but it's a little disconcerting that they'd be advertising crime so openly. I may sound like I'm being overly critical but this is my seventeenth time in Paris and I've also traveled all around Europe so I'm used to all kinds of rooms but this experience was definitely the worst. It's a shame, it could have been so much better and it also spoiled my wife's birthday to a degree. Perhaps I had the wrong room, the wrong people, on the wrong day. My wife spoke to the owner, who we thought was the young female assistant, and she described the horrible receptionist woman as having good days and bad days. We got the bad day....
