Elegant hotel in secluded beautifully garden

Pros: The historical character, friendly staff and the gracious surrounds.
Cons: The only thing would be a more comfortable bed in room 7, the one we stayed in. It was like sleeping on a pile of bricks.
Location: Secluded location off main dual carriageway but close to other facilities.
Wonderful old property, very well presented in secluded established grounds. Excellent breakfast menu, cosy guest bar and the orangery is a lovely feature. It was like staying in a country hotel but with the benefit of being close to urban facilities.

A disappointment overall

Pros: The setting. Pretty building. The food.
Cons: The bedrooms need updating and redecorating. Senior management needs to sleep a night in each room to notice its short comings on facilities.
Location: Great location.
The staff were really helpful, friendly and professional. The building and setting is beautiful. Parking is great. Location is great. We were really looking forward to staying here. However, the bedrooms are tired and dated. The kettle had to go on the floor to be used as the cable was too short to reach the table. The mirror was too low to stand in front of it (we're both 5'9" tall) and the huge room had such a small TV you could barely see it from the bed or sofa! We were shown three rooms before we found one that came with a shower and that had the bathroom right down the landing away from the room instead of en-suite. The doors were really creaky (WD40 required), the bed was so hard we both had a sleepless night with our backs aching in the morning. The restaurant was nice, the food was good but we both eat out a lot and thought the meal was 50% over priced for what it is. The waitresses forgot our drinks on both occasions we ordered them! 2 drinks each, a starter and a main each plus 1 portion of chips (which were extra but were needed in order to give a reasonable main meal portion) came to £76!!!! plus £7 tip is a huge amount for 2 people!! All in all we would not stay here again.
