Excellent hospitality!

Pros: location, service, staff
Cons: pool area is a bit old style
Location: Pudong is a new area, with lovely restaurants, amazing towers for sightseeing and shopping.
The hotel is perfectly located in the new Pudong area with very good access to the metro. The staff is extremely polite and attentive. The breakfast variety is hughe and delicisios and the bar is amazing: lovely view from 30th floor, delicious drinks, amazing staff. The hotel is perfectly managed and we had a wonderful stay. Also the spa and massages we can highly recommend.

Fireworks Chinese New Year's Eve

Although we didn't see many fireworks from the hotel, we were not far from the bottle opener and saw the most amazing Chinese New Year's Eve fireworks across the whole of Shanghai from the 92nd floor. This is why we chose Kempinsky - however it took at least 30 mins to walk to although you can see the building in front of you as you leave Kempinsky! And no taxis on New Year's eve! Nevertheless, it was fabulous waking upto our sunrise view overlooking the river fantastic views, luxurious and comfortable room and a wonderful clean spa with views to kill for!

Business stay

This is the second time I have stayed at this hotel formely the Gran Melia, this time it was for a full seven days, the facilities are excellent, staff wonderfull, and would always chose this hotel when in Shanghai

Unfortunately the service and the breakfast but also the dinner buffet were just soso. When arriving they could not find my booking , though I showed them my booking , so they wanted to charge me the complete amount for the room again as deposit till next day to clear things. I refused , as i assumed is not my problem , especially because the reception clerk and also her deputy manager , did not seem to be very competent. However the charged me for the room again and did not even say one word next day about it , if it has been cleared or what was the problem. Breakfast was for a 5 Star hotel really under average. As usual a lot are not very well trained, but asking 3 times for cappuccino and still not get any, is really even in China unbelievable, assortment of ham, sausage and cheese was matching a cheap bed&breakfast , just the Chinese soup bar was not too bad. Dinner buffet was a bit better in comparison to the breakfast , but still just average and for 50€ each overpriced , quality and choice was not matching the price. The room was good and clean, though I did not like the style so much , but this is subjective of course.
