About average. Size of room 1.14 was small/cramped but adequate for a one night stay visiting daughter at university. We didn't spend much time in it. 4' 6" standard double bed pushed up against the wall. Main issue for us was that all conversation in the corridor and shutting of doors was easily heard by us which made us wonder about the level of soundproofing. The walls and doors were very poor at excluding noise. Next time will pay a bit extra and stay at the Halifax hotel.

Too smug for its own good?

I read some reviews before booking stating it was a hard place to review. I found this an odd statement, but having stayed there, I see what the reviewers meant. Starting at the beginning, it's hard to find: my taxi from the city centre gave up. The best advice I can give is to take the 120 bus and ask the driver to put you off at the Student Village stop, walk down the hill and make for 'The Edge', the 24-hour student centre, with staff who can give you directions. Jonas is a conversion from student accommodation, which was no surprise to me, as this was clear when I booked. What I did find hard was the lack of tea and coffee making facilities in the room - when I pointed this out, I was told that 'this is because we are a hotel'. Er??? The staff member concerned might like to refresh her 'Hospitality 101' course, since every hotel room I have stayed in now has a kettle and tea bags etc. Jonas instead wants you to pay for their coffee and tea available on sale in reception. They have a rather laboured "we are totally cool 'vibe' " which I think they should lose, as they have little to be smug about. 'Cute dog pictures etc' don't make up for lack of a kettle etc and their much-vaunted 'free cup of coffee and breakfast pastry' is over-rated. There is a kitchen available, with dirty washing-up everywhere. Staff member who checked me in and out was very pleasant, as was the kind man on duty all night. I was pleased to leave, albeit that nothing terrible had happened.
