Down at heel. No free upgrade at check in as per booking. Given bedroom and the bathroom had no shower curtain or screen. Spoke to reception who offered a new room which we accepted as it was nicer. Overall the hotel promised a lot but failed to deliver. I feel sorry for the staff working there. Oh and it wasn't very clean

Worst hotel I’ve stayed in a long time! Room was awful, dirty and small. Dust, hairs, marks on the floor! Avoid!

Firstly I’d like to commend the staff. They bent over backwards to help, they were warm, friendly and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble and my boyfriend and I had a wonderful stay. I asked for a romantic quiet room and we were put in the Azure suite which was almost like being in a self contained unit...delightful and exactly what we needed. It’s so well placed for all amenities, walking distance in fact. This is the perfect hotel for anyone who is taking a cruise from Southampton or coming back. I adore this place, quaint and full of character....even though we stayed in the new build 😉

Staff were very pleasant and welcoming, both checking in and out. The room was nice and very comfortable. I was in Room 1, on the ground floor, and found it a little bit noisy at times as there was a party on but the noise didn't go on until late and wasn't bad enough for me to complain - just maybe something to bear in mind. I had a lovely stay at the Dolphin Hotel and would return if I happen to be in Southampton.

Great location but could be so much better

Shabby room in much need of redecoration and TLC. Bathroom was a disaster zone.

Overnight stay in central Southampton

Pros: Bed and general decor
Cons: bathroom and check in staffing
Location: Very central to town and many bars and restaurants
Nice bedroom and comfortable beds. Bathroom could do with an upgrade as it looked fairly tired. Also 2 trainees on the check in desk made it less impressive at first meeting.

Good for Cruise Ships but poor otherwise

Pleasant and helpful staff, but poor room which seemed to us to be a large single which they classed as a double i.e not a full double bed etc. Could do with complete refurb. Also had to pay £5 parking which made the room cost far too high for the quality offered. Sash windows would not stay open. All round a poor experience considering the good standard normally enjoyed in a Mercure hotel.
