      Cheap and cheerful but ......

Chose to stay in Stafford as daughter had Uni interviews in Liverpool and Shropshire - Stafford was a good central base. The Vines is a lovely old building, full of beams and character. The positives: the hotel is in a central location, easy access to the train station by foot. This is a pub with rooms above but don't let that put you off, it was very quiet. We had a room on the top floor. The stair case is tricky, steep and narrow due to the age of the building, so anyone with accessibility issues needs to take this into account. The bed was super comfy but had ill fitting sheets, so they didn't stay put in the night. Tea/coffee/biscuits are supplied in the room. The decor is tired and dated (yes I know its a period building but woodchip is really not in keeping). The bathroom, whilst a good size and functionable was grubby. Plenty of cobwebs to spot (but then I've got them at home). The breakfast is better on paper than in reality and the coffee is that horrible cheap stuff from a machine that doesn't taste like coffee. Didn't try the dinner menu.
