Old coaching Inn in Stourbridge

Pros: The character, wonky floors, beautiful beams and big pieces of antique furniture.
A delightful old coaching Inn, slightly tired but delightful. Staff pleasant and helpful and breakfast good.

Dirty Linen, Lack of staff training

Pros: Has character, food appeared to be good value although I did not eat here.
Cons: Staff training was lacking. Cleanliness and attention to detail comes from the top!
Location: High street was OK, didn't stay the night so can't comment too much further.
Whilst checking in I was told I did not have a reservation, despite providing an e-bookers reference number. I had to wait 30 minutes until eventually after a phone call to e-bookers my reservation was confirmed. The room itself was small but comfortable size for a single person. The room had a stale smell which I attributed to the age of the property, I also noted the floor had not been hoovered which although not ideal, I decided I could put up with. However, when it came to going to bed I turned back the bed covers to discover numerous hairs (including pubic), bits of fluff and general dirt. I raised the issue with the manager who offered me another room, however, when I pulled back the covers in this room the linen was also found to be dirty and soiled (hairs, stains etc.). The manager insisted the bed had been newly changed that morning and attributed the dirt to failure of the laundry, he offered to change the bed which I rejected as by this point had lost all confidence in the cleanliness of the linen and the hotel generally. I requested a refund and left to find another hotel (at 9:30pm!). I was told I could not be refunded by the hotel as I had booked through e-bookers. Although I can partially understand the hotelier's position, in that situation embarrassment would have prompted me to pay the refund myself, but there we go. I now have to sort out a refund via e-bookers... Avoid!

Very old building in the centre of Stourbridge.

Pros: Its age gives it its character. It is a small hotel operated by a small staff that you quickly get to know.
Cons: The hotel has not been operating very long and the management is working to develop the facilities.
Location: Stourbridge seems rather quiet. It is a convenient centre for access to towns such as Kidderminster and Dudley.
The hotel was easy to find without the use of GPS. There is adequate parking. Bedrooms are on 1st and 2nd floors with no lift. The bedroom was clean and comfortable but the wardrobe door would not stay closed. The breakfast is excellent. Other meals served in the bar are good value; we ate there on each of the three evenings of our stay. The atmosphere is relaxed and the staff are friendly and helpful. We will happily stay there again if we are spending time in the area.
