Whilst the room was very dated and in need of refurbishment, it was clean. However there was an overwhelming smell in the room and it was unclear where it was coming from. Got up at the crack of dawn and left early.

Good Morning Michael Thank you for taking the time to complete your survey I sorry to read that your stay with us was ruined by the smell i have spoken to the housekeeping team and they have search the room and cannot find what it could be they expect that it must have come from the industrial park oppisite or the fields behind the hotel We do hope that we will see you again Kindest Regards Shaun Wood Reception Manager

The staff were good, but had to dash around doing several jobs. Mostly had to ring to get someone on the reception. The rooms are fine, I had the cheapest double & it was a good size with everything I needed. It is a quiet location too, as it was away from the road, but don't know if it would be on working days, as I was there for Easter. The property does appear to be rundown and there was boarding in front of the building, which was the view from the window of the room facing the direction of the main road! I did forget to ask what was going on there. For me, it was a convenient location & a reasonable price for a single guest, but having no chef for evening meals was inconvenient (but they did offer to provide details of local restaurants that delivered) & the bar is limited. I do understand it is not in a particularly busy area and they are on minimum staff.

Dear Janet Thank you for taking the time to complete our survey Apologies in the delay in replying to you We started our refurbishment back in early 2020 but sadly due to covid the work had to stop and since we had dug up the foundations we had to make this secure hence that is why the boarding was up around the hotel . We do hope to re start the refurb later on this year . We unfortunately lost our chef and due to the impact on the hospitality industry is has proven difficult to replace chef and front of house staff We do hope to see you again Kindest Regards Shaun Wood

The staff are very helpful but the standards need addressing, needs updated rooms are clean but a little drab looking. The breakfast was not good at all we waited over an hour once our order was taken and when it arrived the breakfast was overcooked. Bacon and black pudding was burnt we did complain and received a refund. We feel there is a lack of back up for the staff this should be addressed.

Reception unmanned on arrival, so we waited several minutes - noticed a dirty tray with a used glass on the table. Then a young man came by & asked if we wanted to check in. We said yes, & his reply was - she was in a meeting, but she won't be long. When she did come, there was no apology, no welcoming greeting. Room seemed OK. But, Shower didn't work - no sympathy or helpful solution offered, so we couldn't use it to get ready to go out. We were told a plumber would be called. On our return later, there was water dripping and the bathroom light didn't work. Bulb was changed, but we were made to feel like it was our fault. The shower couldn't be fixed. (Oh, and that dirty tray was still on the table in the foyer.) At breakfast, we waited over 15 minutes before someone took our order. There were no more croissants (when I went to get one) - apparently the cook had burnt them. On checkout, I wanted to speak to the manager - but the unsmiling, unhelpful lady on reception WAS the manager. Before I could say anything she just said she would give me SOME of my money back, Again, no apology, nothing to make me feel like a valued customer. I have stayed in many hotels in this country and abroad, and I think this is one of the worst experiences. The problems we unfortunately encountered were bad enough, but it was the dreadful attitude of the manager that has prompted me to submit this review.
