    4/5 Good

Room was clean and beds comfortable, good breakfast. The place has a lot of character although most of the bedrooms are in characterless extensions to the original Manor House. The only negative thing is the interior is beginning to look a bit 'tired' - it needs updating - redecorating, the bedroom windows replaced with double glazing, the carpets replacing (they are threadbare in places in the main thoroughfares), and the standard-room bathrooms modernizing. Having said that, I expect the room prices would increase if this were all done.

    Highly recommend. Beautiful!

The room and front desk service was excellent! The hotel is beautiful. The only very slight problem was breakfast time. The service was chaotic. Nobody seemed to be following any plan or organisation. Lots of staff but a bit headless chicken. Lovely people when they got to you though.

      Moved to alternative accommodation

We didn't stay there in the end as we were told by phone that we had been moved to the sister hotel - The Swan's Nest - on the afternoon of our arrival. The reason given was an incident of flooding at the Alveston Manor. We were very disappointed as we had been looking forward to using the leisure facilities- in particular the swimming pool. The standard of service in the dining room and the quality of breakfast left much to be desired. Based on our experience we would not recommend the Swan's Nest Hotel to travellers.
