Great atmosphere, really comfortable, very friendly staff and nothing too much trouble. Excellent location, lovely food. Would recommend to friends and will stay again. Perhaps a lick or two of paint would help, but that was being picky. Only real note and it's communication: We asked on booking if we could leave the car in the car park until about 5pm as we were going to the theatre after check out. We were told no problem. I checked again with reception prior to check out and again told it was okay. However, at check out a man who was parking cars disputed this and said 2pm was the latest unless we were having afternoon tea at 2pm. We told him we had asked about this but he repeated he point until the receptionist confirmed she had said it was okay. He then relented but made it clear he disagreed. Whilst every other member of staff spoke with a smile and was friendly, he was brusque. On what was promising to a great stay, his attitude and demeanour took a little of the gloss off. I understand the limits of the car park and if we had been told prior that we had to move the car, fine. But t have staff contradict each other negatively in front of guests was not acceptable and not what we'd have expected based on our visit. Whilst it did just leave a sour taste n the mouth, we would not allow that to prevent us from returning, in fact we insist on doing just that.

Very expensive for what we got. Thought there might be a reduction in room price as they were refurbishing the property.

Location: town centre v close to abbey etc but quiet .
very comfortable lovely decor food very good but a little pricey

Disappointing

If you have any mobility issues give this hotel a miss - lots of stairs even in the rooms! Bar access only by spiral staircase. Menu over priced.
