Don't just be seduced by the lovely picture of this property as I was! It's true the view of the ancient bridge and river is delightful, but you'll find virtually all of the tables with the view are permanently reserved....as we found for people that mainly never turned up! It seems that Marston's Inns have a policy for their guests that you pay for your room on arrival, and then have to pay for every service/drinks order you the separately. We made five charges in the first few hours, and I decided I couldn't be bothered after that. We had dinner on the first evening, which was average to say the least, and served by a staff member who either had a bad day, or was consistently rude and disrespectful as I saw him mentioned in another report on Trustpilot. The room was acceptable, but needed attention in some areas. It was slightly alarming that water came through the bathroom ceiling each time another guest had a shower. I rarely give negative feedback, seeking the best from every establishment, but unless the policy and attitude changes, I would not choose to stay in this or any other Marston's Inn again.

Great: location, helpfulness of staff, food, view of river from dining area and bar, bed; Bad: paper thin walls in the lodge rooms where we stayed. We could hear the TVs very clearly from both rooms which were adjacent to ours and also the occupants talking. Given that at least one TV was on continuously throughout the evening until about 11.30 pm and from 7.30am this detracted from the enjoyment of our stay

Lovely location and views by the river. Rooms badly need renovation to bring it up to an acceptable standard and better lighting generally in rooms and restaurant area. Not a peaceful hotel Noisy, with heavy traffic starting early morning over the bridge with HGVs. Standard Pub Food expensive, very limited choice and nothing healthy.
