The room, for the price, was acceptable, and the main sitting area off reception. However, the distance you had to trek to reach your room, the fact that it was not possible to eat in the main dining room (not made clear a reservation was needed) and we had to eat pub food in the golf bar was not a good start. There was NO full meal service on SUNDAY when we had booked especially for a family gathering, only at dinner it seems. Not special at all. The grounds, from afar, and trees, lovely but not well maintained. Trees and shrubbery lacked trimming and many were dying. Not what I have come to expect form large english country hotels with this level of pretence. Perhaps they focus on the greens for golf and forget about the casual traveller. My cousins room was next to the elevator and she didn't get to sleep (wedding reception) till 2 am. Another cousin was unable to reach the limited dining in the pub due to areas being blocked off by the reception and our option was to go outside, in the rain. Route finally determined. Drinks on the house but NOT a good experience.
