No No for business traveller

The positives: Nice location, beautiful view, comfortable rooms, clean hotel, parking available, close to city center. Polite but laid back staff The nightmares: The cleaner forgot to change towels he/she took all the used ones and did not put up fresh. (day one) so I discovered it just after shower, so wet and call to reception and towels turned up WIFI connection gone at (Day 2). I run to managers and duty persons, and got different answers so clear it was not their priority. After 24 hours without internet still blame game, network. Eirecomm, central station problems etc etc. They had a function and that was the staff priority, the few guest was not really. The function lasted till 05:00 a.m. and some had no volume control at all so rest is gone with the wind for guest. 15 Euro price for a small breakfast is expensive. At this time of the year the hotel clearly has not enough guests so the focus on function. Thi is a 4 star hotel so all those catalog of errors are unforgivable. Advice to business traveler is avoid, for weekend city break it is fine.

BIG MISTAKE!

We booked in for one night. As soon as we arrived in reception we realised that we had made a mistake -- we should have stayed for several days. The reception was friendly and helpful. Our room was perfect. The dining room is beautiful with excellent staff. The food was in keeping with the rest of The Athenaeum. This first class hotel is a very convenient hour or so drive from Rosslare Ferry Port and makes an ideal first stop in Ireland. It sets a standard that most hotels will find hard to equal. Thank you.

A city hotel in the countryside.

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Food was excellant, and because the hotel is not in the middle of the city, it feels as though you are at a country hotel, although are about a mile from the city centre. If I was in Waterford again I would stay here.
