Cosy, but a bit ragged round the edges..

Stayed in the 'Honeysuckle' room. Has a four-poster bed which looks nice. However, the mattress springs can be felt each time you move or turn in your sleep, the mattress clearly needs changing. There is also a stain on the carpet in the room which is quite obvious. The shower head was full of limescale. Nice hotel, but the Honeysuckle room is in need of an upgrade as it looks very tired and outdated.

Nice hotel lovely cosy bed .

Pros: Very warm and friendly .
Cons: Update the rooms a little
Location: Chesil beach, fantastic fishing.
Hotel was clean and tidy but the room was a bit tired and a little dated but very clean. Also no hot water through the shower!

Stayed Saturday night just gone.

Pros: The relaxed atmosphere and the staff plus the decor and the lovely open fire. The location also was spot on. Loved Chesil Beach.
Cons: Maybe get rid of the TV downstairs? The shower could be upgraded slightly. The wind was howling through the bedroom window which was also leaking.
Location: I wanted to see Chesil Beach which was nearby. Loved Abbotsbury. Only there one night but will go back for longer as area beautiful with lots to see.
Got there on Saturday about 3.00pm. Decided wanted a cream tea but no clotted cream. However the owner went out to shop to get me some. Delicious and such a kind thing to do. We decided to go out for dinner to the Crab House Cafe which I had wanted to go to since seeing this on a show with Sir Terry Wogan. That was great and I tried my first oyster which was not too pleasant! The room (Clover) was nice and warm and nicely decorated. The TV worked which is a first! Breakfast was included and was delicious. Will definately go back. The staff were lovely and it all made for a lovely relaxing break.

This is a really lovely looking hotel in a lovely setting - very comfortable downstairs with open fires and an eclectic mix of furniture. The staff were helpful, especially front of house and bar staff, who accommodated our locking keys in our room and phone taxis for us. It's a shame that one surly person can make such a difference to an overall feeling - but this member of staff aside, we were well looked after. Our room was fine. Insisting on having a bath as opposed to a walk in shower seems always slightly odd, especially in this case when it meant that the sink had to be located out of the bathroom in the main bedroom. But I am cavilling here. The breakfast was good - especially if you wanted a cooked breakfast. For me, who really would have liked more fruit and freshly baked bread, it was a little disappointing - but the rest of my party were delighted with their 'full English' and Eggs Royale. All in all it was good value for money, and I would stay here again.

There is lots to like here.

Pros: Our room and the food :-)
Cons: Speed of dinner service
Location: The Tropical gardens are worth a visit especially when illuminated in the evenings. The famous Swannery close too . The of course walks everywhere.
We stayed in the Charlotte room which was nice and big with a comfortable 4 poster, large bathroom and a nice sitting area in the large bay windows overlooking the garden and countryside beyond. This is an old building so a quirk like holding the sash windows open with a wedge is quite acceptable ventilation system :-). The bar and restaurant area was rustic but very comfortable with large open fire. Breakfast was very good and no need to go hungry at all ! The quality and taste of the food at dinner was excellent if a little slow when busy, but just have another drink and enjoy the surroundings.

Pros: Welcoming feel, various areas to suit all visitors for drinking, eating, relaxing.
Location: Excellent location, lovely walks locally plus nearby to visit Bridport and West Bay.
I was welcomed and given local info on a scenic walk, which was enjoyable with great views of the coast.

Abbotsbury is a place to visit.

Cons: For the price we payed we expected just a bit better. Otherwise it was fine.
Location: St. Catherine's Chapel, the remains of the old abbey, the exceptionally large tithing house and the swanery are all in walking distance.
The Ilchester Arms is in the centre of the charming village and close to the various sights.
