Booked with ebookers who took £40 from my account on booking. My room was £200 so I thought I would pay £160 at hotel but was charged £200. I doubt anybody will read this anyway...having said that I loved the hotel.

Ideal location, staff friendly and helpful

Pros: Full of character Staff helpful, warm and friendly
A wonderful 4 day break for myself and daughter. The White Horse and Griffin was a beautiful place to stay - full of character and warm, friendly staff. The food was excellent. We both fell in love with Whitby

Not as good as it looks on website

We arrived at 2:30 mid October and the room was freezing, we were told the heating is only on between 5am and 9am & 5pm to 9 pm, the drinks are totally overpriced, £12 for a glass of wine and a beer , and the whole place needs a lot of tlc, the bar closes at 10pm so as we got back a little after that, we had to let ourselves in through a back door, the bagatelle room in the attic we stayed in had no fire escape, which was a worry as the stairs leading up to it are very steep as well. No parking either. On a plus side the staff were very helpful and the breakfast was good, we paid £75 for 1 night, we wouldn’t stay there again. We have stayed at much nicer places for around the same price

Distinctly average :/

Overall it was ok- towels were not clean in our room which was disappointing. When we arrived at 8:45 after a long drive, we were told that we couldn't have dinner even though they served till 9 and were still plating up main courses in the kitchen! Room was cosy and the hotel was close to the town centre but I probably wouldn't go back.

Nice central hotel, comfortable. Breakfast good.

Pros: It was a very good location.
Cons: Lighting and information.
Location: Near to lots of shops etc. and the steps to the Abbey.
Generally good experience but I thought the hotel was a little too poorly lit. The subdued lighting was a little too dark for me. Thought the staff should have warned us about having to book for an evening meal in the restaurant. I hadn't realised and the restaurant was fully booked on the Saturday night. My husband and I ended up going elsewhere. Otherwise comfortable.

Great hotel, full of charm and character

Pros: Charm, unique rooms. Great dining room and food
Cons: Room slightly tired decor wise, but fine.
Location: Great range of pubs, shops and restaurants, a winner!
Our 3rd trip to this hotel, love the character, friendly staff and super food. Lovely old bar, tiny and charming. Rooms super, comfy beds and loved the bathroom. have tried cheaper hotels in Whitby but always drawn back to this one!
