We were made to feel very welcome,by All staff who were helpful & friendly.. If l have one small gripe there wasn't really enough shelf space, apart from that room was very comfortable. A big plus it is inside the city wall within easy walking distance to all attractions & couple mins walk to The Minster.

NIce pub, OK room, fantastic location

Title says it all really. My dissapointment was specific to one room, the only single room. Unfortunately this was directly next to the air con and the extractor coming out of the kitchen. Very noisy during the day, and quite noisy at night. Also, the window looks directly onto the pub garden, on a level with people sitting at tables (you can close the curtains). On the upside, the breakfast was great, staff good, and its in a great location for the centre of the historic city (and its relatively cheap).

Hi Sorry you found our single room on the noisy side. We do turn off the fans as soon as the kitchen closes. Kind regards The Lamb and Lion

Ok, but paying for location

Lamb and lion inn review Room......Sat 1 Oct 2016. Friendly and helpful bar/reception staff. Place to store luggage pre check in. Room. View of beer garden, loud churchbells as close to minster. Room decor and size ok. No comfy chairs or a suitcase stand. Wardrobe space jjust a rail and curtain. One bedside lamp blown Bathroom. No bath which is disappointing. Shower fairly stNdarx but dirty grout. Clean otherwise though. Warning, water v hot, slow to come out of tap and no mixer tap. Generally would be acceptable, but not for the £260 night price tag, expect a better quality of accommodation for that in my previous experience. Comfy bed, def need earplugs church bells creeky floor. Delicious breakfast. Watch out 're parking, and WiFi only worked in bar. Great location.

Great just a few niggles

Great stay ,super staff ,perfect location (we didn't need a car for the whole stay ) .we stayed in room 9 (superior room ) for 3 nights, its spacious and no noise, nice mix of modern and old decor ( We stayed on a weekend and it was a race day ... If you can't sleep here I don't know where you can sleep . Break fast set you up for a days shopping and sight seeing . Only niggle if any 3 light bulbs were blown in our room and one plug didn't work near the mirror .. But £10 , a handy man and all would be perfect again . Bathroom was nice too great shower . Would defo recommend to anyone

Fab romantic holida

My partner and I recently stayed at the Lion & Lamb after we found the inn on a travel website. We read many reviews which said that the inn was a wonderful place to stay if you were looking for a traditional stay in the city centre. The reviews couldn't have been any more true! We arrived at 3pm for check-in (which gave us enough time to explore York and it's many attractions) and were greeted by the manager who had a wonderful 'can-do' attitude in comparison to other hotels we have stayed at. The nights sleep was also sublime after we'd enjoyed a night out in Central York with a friend. We would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a lush getaway in the city!

This is a pub not a hotel

To start my review it is important to stress that the Lamb & Lion is NOT a 4* hotel . . . . it is primarily an old, very busy city centre pub with a restaurant which has some rooms upstairs. Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how good the restaurants food is as on the evening we arrived no tables were available so we couldn’t eat there and the bar staff were unable to offer room service (which became obvious once we saw the room) or an alternative suggestion as where to eat. We did have breakfast in the morning which was served in the pubs small bar area and it wasn’t special in any way. Upon arrival at the ‘pub’ I was disappointed to discover that no parking facilities were on the premises and we were directed to a public car park the best part of a mile away. It was cold, windy and raining so this was not a good start to our experience. After parking the car and walking back the 20 mins or so to the pub we discovered that the pub had no ‘hotel’ reception so we had to queue at the bar with our bags waiting to ‘check in’ This was another 15 – 20 mins. We were allocated Room 2 and the barman walked us up to our room via an old threadbare staircase. To call the room small would be doing the word small a disservice. It was tiny . . . . . . no room for a lamb never mind a lion in that room. The bed took up at least 85% of the room with maybe 2 foot at the end and another 2 foot between the side of the bed and the window. On the other side of the bed we probably had 4 foot but half of this was taken up by a makeshift doorless 1/2 single wardrobe, an area to store a small bag storage and the main door into the room. The bathroom was down a corridor in the room. The corridor opening was very tight so I can imagine for anybody over normal weight it would be a struggle getting through. If I faced the opening square on my shoulders hit both sides and I'm only 10 & 1/2 stone !! The door to the bathroom could not fully open as it hit the shower in the corner of the bathroom. In the window of the 'pub' it states’ Luxuriously Appointed Rooms’ . . . . . I think not. Room 2 had a very old, cheap small tv on a bracket in the corner of the room, a mirror on the wall, a small table with tea/coffee and 2 small bedside cupboards with rickety old lamps on them and curtains. That was about it. No luxuries in there whatsoever. The linen on the bed was clean but the greyish brown throw used to break up the white linen was old, bobbled and tired looking so we immediately removed as it didn’t look too appealing. All in all the room was very disappointing. The only function the room serves is sleep. You cannot spend any quality time in there or use it for any other purpose. . . . . hence room service would be useless as you have no place to eat it. The location of the pub is very close to the Cathedral and it is also very close to other pubs and establishments so it was very noisy during the night with groups of people walking past shouting and swearing until the early hours of the morning. The windows offered very little sound proofing due to their age.. In the morning we awoke early #6am# and headed down to find out what time breakfast was. After walking down the threadbare staircase and smelling the strong cellar smell of beer we were advised it would be 8am . . . . . . . . We were hoping to eat and head out early as let’s face it there was nothing else you could do there once awake. The 2 hours wait was an eternity . . . . . . and ultimately the wait was not worth it. We ate, checked out and walked the mile back to the car eager to escape and never to return. All in all I found the description of the ‘Lamb & Lion’ extremely misleading. At best it should be a 2* and had I known what I discovered upon arrival there is no way I would have stayed there. It goes without saying that I will not stay there again and I will have to do more research as the words used to describe this place were wholly inaccurate.

Loistava hinta/laatusuhde

Sijainti on loistava 10min kävely juna-asemalta, hotellista lyhyt kävely matka keskustaan. Hotellin alakerrassa on erittäin mukava pubi ja henkilökunta. Pubissa tarjoillaan aamiainen jonka saa itse valita muutamasta vaihtoehdosta mm. englantilainen aamianen.
