Lovely hotel close to York.

Lovely warm welcome, not rushed when booking in on the day after travelling. Was shown to our room and was shown what the hotel had to offer as we went. We found that you can walk into York, if you felt like doing the two Mile walk. All staff warm and friendly happy to help with any questions we had. Would love to go back next year for our thirtieth wedding anniversary.

Excellent location

The hotel is just on the outskirts of York and costing less than £10.00 for taxi transfers into the heart of the city. All staff are very helpful and friendly. The cooked breakfast I would say was the best I’ve ever had it’s worth a visit for that experience. The pool and spar facilities were excellent and clean. We will definitely be going back.

Perfect stay

This hotel is in a perfect place for keen racing fans. Straight across the road is access to York racecourse. The spa is a good place to relax. Rooms and staff are excellent. The only down side is no bar and drinks are served from fridge making it a little expensive.

Couple break

We went for a small last minute winter break to York. Its a little bit pricey, but you do get to stay in a manor house. We were given room 29 on the second floor of the stables, which was had a window over the courtyard and gardens. I think this would be one of the bigger standard rooms. The hotel staff are very friendly, though we did not get turn down service for one of the nights. The breakfast is fine for a hotel of this size (though ask for the toast to come with the rest of the food). The spa is a reasonable size for a small hotel (as it is used by members), having a steam and dry room, jacuzzi and pool as well as gym equipment. The hotel is a little distance from town. We walked it twice taking around 20 minutes. For evening its easy to drive in and park at one of the car parks if you do not want to get a taxi.

Great weekend location

Really enjoyed our stay here. The staff were all very welcoming and informative on our arrival. Enjoyed the use of the spa facilities. Breakfast service was really poor as we felt we were forgotten about and had to remind staff on a few occasions of our order.

posh city stay

Really nice feel-good factor here! Lovely guest lounge, silver-platter service of drinks. We didn't eat dinner there but the menu looked amazing (though pricy). Breakfast was delightful - basic continental included in our price = drinks, cereal, toast, pastries, fruit... in other words, plenty - and cooked breakfast a reasonably priced extra. Service was brisk, friendly and nothing-too-much-trouble. Rooms are historic so you have to overlook some untidy bits of decorating, they have done a very good job of bringing modern expectations into an old building. BUT our bed was rock hard!
