Windows in the room dirty (with a squashed fly on one, to boot), the toilet seat was too big for the loo so it was hard to make it stay up. Restaurant (Lascelles) was overpriced with small portions: a saddle of rabbit about the same size as a sausage for £16.50 and once slice of duck breast as a starter. The food was good, if a bit pretentious but not at all filling. We were not asked if we required wine at the table. We hoped to have a good breakfast, however we had to ask for plates twice, had to wait for various hot items to be cooked, no milk brought with our hot drinks,no butter on the table. The orange juice is undrinkable. We complained about the breakfast and added the other problems. The duty manager took our comments on board and the things that could be made right, were. I overheard another guest complain about breakfast too.We were given a complimentary afternoon tea which was nice and were not charged for breakfast for the first day. We were advised that we would be given a breakfast cooked fresh by the chef the next morning but it seems that the message hadn’t been passed on. As advised by the duty manager we went down to breakfast earlier and the food was in better condition, not all dried up. Lucky we did go down early - as we were checking out people were being told that there was no room in the restaurant and were being told to wait in the bar for a table. Despite the hotel trying to make things right we wouldn’t stay again.

Super hotel facilities on the edge of York

Had a wonderful stay at the Parsonage. Been here to a wedding reception a while ago and always wanted to stay. My room was 24 in the annex with double doors opening onto a patio and open fields beyond. The room was very comfortable with room to relax, work and even a table to eat at. I enjoyed an evening swim in the lovely Spa and returned to a room service Ploughman’s! Can’t fault the service and meal, so thoughtfully presented. The staff were kind and understanding of my needs across the hotel and I am thankful for their genuine manner. The only downside was the lack of phone signal, I resorted to using the Hotel WiFi and sending an email!
