Property is a bit dated, can hear other guests walking around upstairs and talking in next rooms. Breakfast was disappointing the continental was ok but the cooked was a disgrace and embarrassing

Decor in the room was great and bathroom facilities excellent. Only downside was the heat in the room. A fan was provided but didnt make a great deal of difference. Staff were very attentive and ambiance top notch.

Excellent stay in this beautiful traditional hotel. Our room was spacious and comfortable (superior). The breakfast was fantastic and one of the best hotel ones we have had- hot food cooked to order. The dining areas are beautiful and look out to the lovely gardens. All the staff are very polite and helpful. It takes about 30 minutes to walk into York - which is a lovely walk, particularly if you drop down to the riverside walk. If you are looking for a central location with contemporary decor then this place is not for you. If you appreciate traditional country house decor and love a scenic walk then this place is perfect!

Nice building and lovely grounds

The building is beautiful. The outside area also beautiful. It's a 20minute simple walk to the Barbican and the centre of York. The staff at breakfast are certainly ever present. However the adjoining door to the bathroom had merely a hole where the lock was supposed to be, and to open and close it required a large exertion of force. Also, no way to be quiet during the night if sharing the room. There is no sound proofing, and you here every single movement of your neighbors in their room; and as they walk past the noise is something to behold! Also, housekeeping weren't that great judging by the dust and cobwebs. Breakfast was good quality and nice selection of cold buffet and hot food to order. Just a shame they rush you through it. And we weren't taking a leisurely breakfast by any standard. Overall, no I probably wouldn't stay again. The receptionist was rude and abrupt upon arrival, the room was cold on entry, and I had to get up on the night to turn the radiator back up, the lack of privacy to the bathroom and the sound issues....not really worth the nearly £200 I paid.

A nice comfortable Hotel

Pros: A lovely old house.
Location: York City Centre. The shops and all the History!
After our visit to the York Panto the room met all our needs. Clean, warm and comfortable with all usual facilities. An excellent breakfast awaited in the morning!
