What you can expect

You will be picked up at your hotel to embark on a full day of sightseeing in Mandalay and Mingun.
Start your trip with a walk up Mandalay Hill which is famous for its abundance of pagodas and monasteries, and has been a major pilgrimage site for Burmese Buddhists for nearly two centuries as well being as the natural watch-tower for the visitors to watch sunrise or sunset over the city plains.

Continue your trip with a walk to the top of the hill to visit the Sutaungpyei (literally wish-fulfilling) Pagoda. A panoramic view of Mandalay from the top of Mandalay Hill alone makes it worth trying to climb up its stairways.

Then, make a stop at the base of the hill to visit Shwe Nandaw Kyuang - or Golden Palace Monastery - which is known for its teak carvings of Buddhist myths, which adorn its walls and roofs. The monastery is built in the traditional Burmese architectural style. Shwenandaw Monastery is the single remaining major original structure of the original Royal Palace today.

At the end of the morning, pay a visit to the Kuthodaw Pagoda, which houses 'the world's largest book' and comprises of a gilded pagoda, hundreds of shrines housing inscribed marble slabs and several pavilions
Before go on your tour in the afternoon, spend time having lunch at a local restaurant by the riverside
In the afternoon, take on a boat trip up the Irrawaddy River from Mandalay to the riverside village of Mingun. Coming here, you can admire the picturesque scenery of this river and the simple lifestyles of the local people who live and work on these waters.

Next, visit the Mingun Bell which is one of the world's largest ringing bells dated A.D 2000. Go to the south of the bell to visit Mingun Pagoda, a giant brick structure built in the late 1700s and although it was unfinished due to economic troubles it is still an impressive site. Another highlight here is the Hisnbyume Pagoda, which is painted white and is modelled on the physical description of the Buddhist mythological mountain, Mount Meru.

Once coming to Mingun, do not miss a chance to visit areas crafting traditional basketry and other artistic items and spend your free time communicating with the craftsmen and hospitable locals.

Late in the afternoon, as the sun begins to set, return by boat. From the jetty transfer back to your hotel.
