Visit Mount Popa, a curiously cylindrical hill rising sharply from the surrounding plain and considered the home of Myanmar's most important nats, or spirits. Explore the monastery on the top of the massive volcano, rising 4,980 feet (1,518 m) above sea level.

After convenient pickup from your Bagan hotel, leave the city in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle and drive about 31 miles (50 km) southeast into the Pegu Range. Sometimes, in clear weather, Mount Popa can be seen all the way from the Ayeyarwady River. Take in the view as you drive through picturesque landscapes before you reach the base of a fantastic walking trail.

Next, climb up a winding covered staircase encircling the mountain, observed by the curious monkeys that live in the area.
