What you can expect

This fully guided private tour takes you north of Bangkok to see some of the ancient ruins and archaeological sites around the kingdom's ancient capitol, Ayutthaya, as well as to some fascination locations in the neighbouring province of Suphanburi.

You will be collected from your hotel in central Bangkok at about 8.00am to be taken by comfortable, air-conditioned mini-van to Ayutthaya, approximately 80 kilometres north of the city.

First stop will be at Wat Mahathat (Temple of the Great Relics). Apart from being the symbolic centre where Buddha's relics were enshrined, Wat Mahathat was also the residence of the Supreme Patriarch or leader of the Thai Buddhist monks. The temple is believed to have been built during the 14th century A.D. and was restored after it collapsed. After collapsing a second time it was not restored and it is those ruins that is seen today.

Wat Mahathat is also well known for the much-photographed Buddha head, embedded into a tree trunk.

Then its off to one of the most important temples in Ayutthaya, Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon. It has a long and illustrious history but it is still an active temple where monks reside today.

Passing picturesque rice paddies and farms during a drive of about an hour you will have entered Suphanburi Province and arrived at a 100 year old market called Sam Chuk. Along a small street inside the market you will see lots of old houses, building, shops selling foods and much more. Explore some old wooden stores here that date back a century as well as a museum. In 2009, the Sam Chuk Old Market received an Award of Merit in the 2009 annual UNESCO Asia–Pacific Heritage Awards for Culture Heritage Conservation.

Lunch will be taken at a local restaurant followed by a visit to Baan Kwai (Buffalo Village).

Occupying over 27 acres of land, this water buffalo preservation area not only contains a water buffalo ranch it also features the authentic rural lifestyle of farmers in Thailand’s central region. Here you can watch farmers' conducting traditional daily activities such as rice-threshing and there are many other things to do here too before moving onto Thai Farmers - Nahai Chai Learning Centre. This concept of this place is largely one of education and demonstration about newer and more modern farming techniques a place with optional activities like cooking or farming or dessert preparation, etc. (at an additional cost).

Arrival back to your hotel should be about 5.00pm.
