My Barcelona

I am looking forward to exploring Gaudi’s work in more detail, as well as the streets of Barcelona with my skateboarding husband. Some of my favourite cities I have travelled to? Paris and Amsterdam would definitely be up there.

Three whole days in Barcelona, Spain

Day 1

Taking advantage of a children free trip, we enjoyed a late breakfast on our first morning in Barcelona. The beautiful hotel Ohla Eixample offered lots of delicious breakfast options but my favourites were the still warm croissants. With the friendly staff, wonderful food and beautiful surroundings myself and my husband Adam fueled up for what would be a great day ahead.

 





We started the day by relaxing at the Placa de La Universitat watching local skateboarders do tricks and flips.  Adam is an ex skateboarder and said this is something Barcelona is renowned for.

We then took a stroll down the side streets and ended up on Rambla Del Raval where we came across some wonderful street art including a huge cat statue ‘El Gato del Raval’ by Fernando Botero and this stunning piece at Jardins dels Horts De Sant Pau.



The afternoon saw myself and Adam head up to the beautiful Castell De MontJuic and discover some glorious sights on the road up from Carretera de Montjuic.

We headed there on foot,  in my opinion the best way to travel to places as you get to do things on your own time and absorb the sights, sounds and the  views. I think this way you notice things you might otherwise miss when in moving transport.

Soaking up all the history of the Castell was a definite highlight for us.  The lookout tower which was once used to spot enemy attacks, is now an ideal uninhibited viewpoint to see the wonderful city of Barcelona.

My top tip? Go to the very top and look out of the towers as it gives a very different perspective of the Castell’s structure.

Day 2

After what was an amazing first day in Barcelona,  Adam and I have decided we have fallen in love with the city. We headed back to our hotel ‘Ohla Eixample hotel’  worn out from all our exploring but that didn’t stop us taking a little nosy around.

Thoroughly intrigued by the hotels contemporary design and beautiful exposed beams in the rooms. There’re some beautiful features including this amazing staircase that almost looks like an optical illusion.





We couldn’t come to Barcelona without seeing the glorious Basilica de la Sagrada Familia on Carrea de Mallorca! Gaudi’s famous work at its best. Gaudi really intrigues me, I find his work absolutely fascinating, seeing it up close was a definite highlight of the day. The side of the building was a much quieter spot and giving us the chance to really appreciate the building, structure and workmanship in all its glory. I am all the more excited to visit Park Güell tomorrow for a Gaudi overload.


I really feel as if Barcelona is  the gift that keeps on giving. Around every corner something else quite spectacular is awaiting, I am constantly in awe walking around this incredible city.

Every time I come across a new Gaudí building I am in my element, one of my favourites include Casa Milà La Pedrera on Passeig de Gràcia. I love the texture of the building and its curvaceous façade.

Inside they we another favourite of mine, sangria! In the Cafè de la Pedrera we sampled a version of the classic Spanish drink which was delightful and a perfect accompaniment to the hot weather.

Day 3

After yesterday’s full day Adam and I decided a lovely evening was the order of the dy. We chose  Mussol Aragó Carrer d’Aragó. What we thought was a small restaurant was quite deceiving when we entered  a narrow walkway leading to a huge opening, with a lower level dining area.

The menu is great, as it’s written in different languages and offers lots of delicious choices!





Another action packed day awaits us. Today we travelled on the cable car on Carrer de Les Alberes and waited for the bus to take in even more of the beauty the city has to offer as they headed to Parc D’atraccions Tibidabo.

Both the cable car and the bus revealed even more breath taking views of this amazing city.

With the gorgeous weather, beautiful views and a plentiful supply of sangria we are are going to find it hard to leave this wonderful city!



On our last day we couldn’t resist riding on the Ferris wheel at Serra de Collserola Natural Park, Plaça del Tibidabo.

The views were spectacular! It’s a beautiful place to visit, as unlike most theme parks you’re greeted by the breathtaking Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor, my favourite building so far!

Being the thrill seeker of the two of us, I strapped into the roller coaster and shot off at high speed along the loop de loops, loving every second, whilst Adam looked after the bags.

It’s been an epic journey throughout the stay for us and we’ve made memories to treasure forever!

Definitely a trip to tell the kids about!
