Activity itinerary

Torshavn (Pass by)
Board a comfortable private bus that will transport you through the stunning landscapes of the Faroe Islands. Sit back, relax, and let your knowledgeable guide introduce you to the wonders that await.
Kirkjubour Cathedral
  • 30m
Kirkjubøur is the first stop on our tour. A representative from Tórshavn Adventures will collect you from your hotel and drive you to the historic village of Kirkjubøur. This is the southernmost village on Streymoy and the country's most important historical site. Here, you can view the ruins of the Magnus Cathedral, which dates back to 1300, the 12th century Saint Olav's Church, and the 11th century Kirkjubøargarður farmhouse. Incredibly, this farmhouse has been continuously occupied by the same family for 17 generations!
Saksun
  • 30m
Visit Saksun village, known for its picturesque landscapes, grass-roofed houses, and a lagoon. Immerse yourself in the beauty of Saksun, a village nestled in a deep valley. Marvel at its charming grass-roofed houses, stroll by its serene lagoon, and admire the rugged mountains that form a breathtaking backdrop.
Haldarsvík (Pass by)
Set against a breathtaking backdrop of a natural gorge, we will witness a stunning octagonal church perched next to the tranquil harbour in a picturesque village, with a babbling stream tumbling through the area.
Fossa
  • 30m
Stand in awe before Fossá, an impressive waterfall that cascades down from steep cliffs. Feel the mist on your face as you marvel at this natural wonder, captivated by its sheer size and enchanting allure. The waterfall is the tallest in the Faroe Islands. Located near the village of Haldórsvík, the stunning waterfall drops in two levels, creating a combined 140-metre drop. The dark basalt walls surrounding the waterfall further highlight its impressive formation. On a rainy day, the sight of Fossá Waterfall is particularly impressive. Whether you observe the waterfall from afar or get up close, the experience will surely leave you in awe of nature's power. For those looking for a guided tour of Fossá and other highlights of the Faroe Islands, consider taking Viator's Faroe Islands Highlights Tour. The tour includes visits to some of the Faroe Islands' most remarkable sights and attractions, making it an ideal way to explore the beauty of this remote archipelago.
Tjornuvik
  • 1h
Our next stop is Tjørnuvík, the most northerly village on Streymoy. This formerly sleepy village has recently become popular with surfers – yes, you heard that right! In addition, Tjørnuvík is home to one of the oldest Viking burial grounds, complete with original burial stones. We usually take time here to soak in the spectacular view of the "Giant and Hag" rock formations on the headland while enjoying the senary and learning the legend behind the rocks.
Risin and Kellingin
  • 30m
Risin & Kellingin viewpoint The Risin and Kellingin viewpoint refers to a scenic spot from where one can observe the iconic sea stacks named Risin (The Giant) and Kellingin (The Witch) off the northern coast of the island of Eysturoy in the Faroe Islands. According to legend, they are petrified remnants of a giant and a witch who tried to drag the Faroe Islands to Iceland.
Gjogv
  • 1h
Gjógv, a picturesque village named after the Faroese word for 'gorge,' is nestled on the northeast coast of the island of Eysturoy in the Faroe Islands. This charming settlement is known for its idyllic scenery, coloured houses, and its unique natural harbour that carves into the landscape, creating a serene, sheltered inlet. Surrounded by steep mountains and dramatic cliffs, Gjógv offers breathtaking panoramic views of the North Atlantic's vast expanse. The village's most iconic feature is the gorge itself, which extends from the village to the ocean. It serves as a natural harbour where small boats are moored away from the ocean's might, providing a testament to the ingenuity of its inhabitants in adapting to their environment.
Funningur
  • 30m
Funningur offers a blend of stunning natural beauty, historical significance, and cultural charm, making it an attractive spot for travellers looking for tranquillity and an authentic Faroese experience. The village is situated in a lush valley on the island of Eysturoy, surrounded by dramatic peaks and the serene waters of the Funningsfjørður fjord. The landscape offers ample opportunities for photography enthusiasts to capture the essence of Faroese scenery. Funningur is believed to be one of the oldest villages in the Faroe Islands and is steeped in Viking history. According to legend, it was first settled by a Viking named Grímur Kamban. Exploring the village gives visitors a sense of stepping back in time, with its traditional grass-roofed houses and historic church dating back to 1847.
Eysturoyartunnilin (Pass by)
The Eysturoy Tunnel, as it is locally known, is the only sub-sea tunnel in the world with a traffic roundabout. This roundabout, nicknamed "The Jellyfish," was designed to allow drivers to drive either to the capital city of Tórshavn or the village of Skálafjorður. What makes this roundabout so special is its major art installation of glass and iron featuring lights and human figures that join hands around the edge as a symbol of unity. This makes the roundabout a must-see on our return journey to Tórshavn. The tunnel is a marvel of engineering, constructed to withstand the strong Atlantic currents and drilled around 100 metres below sea level. This is a journey you must take just to experience the beauty of Eysturoyartunnilin (The Eysturoy Tunnel).
