Overview

From the capital, we are travelling to the main tourist attraction in Macedonia and a UNESCO protected site, the town of Ohrid. Ohrid lies on the shores of one of the oldest lakes in Europe, Lake Ohrid. Everywhere in Ohrid, breathtaking views of the Lake will fill your eyes and cameras. Called the second Jerusalem on The Balkans, Ohrid is the centre from where Christianity was spread in these lands. After the city tour, we continue to the small mountain village of Kuratica for a home-hosted lunch. Enjoy the traditional meal!

Ancient Theatre of Ohrid

Ancient Theatre in Ohrid is located at the foot of the eastern slope of the higher Ohrid hill, under Samuel’s Fortress. It is near one of the main entrances to the fortified city – the Upper Gate, from where one may capture and enjoy in the unforgettable breathtaking view of the lake and the surrounding mountains.

Church of Holy Mary Peryvleptos

The fresco painting in this church represents some of the first works of the most prestigious medieval painters Michael and Eutychios. Their dramatic expressiveness was the basis of the new trend in Byzantine art from this epoch, called “The Renaissance of the Paleologues”, which was the last chapter of the Byzantine art.

Tsar Samuel's Fortress

Plaoshnik

Just under the Samuil Fortress is the Plaoshnik Archaeological site. Today around Saint Clement church in Plaosnik settlement there is an ongoing project for reconstructing the first Slavic University where the seat of the Faculty for Theology will be transferred.

St. Jovan Kaneo

Standing alone on a cliff overlooking the Lake of Ohrid, above the fishing settlement of Kaneo, it is one of the landmarks of the old town of Ohrid and a favourite symbol in the entire city.

Church of Saint Sophia

The church as it is today was renovated and adorned with frescoes in the time of the archbishop Leo, between 1037 and 1056.

Kuratica

After the Ohrid city tour, we continue to the small mountain village of Kuratica in the massive of Mazatar on the Plakenska Mountain. Our hosts will prepare a special meal just for us. In the meantime, depending on the availability, you can make a short donkey ride or just hike in the beautiful surrounding.
