Lithuania combines poppy milk with poppy pastries for a festive favourite.

Ingredients & Method

500g poppy seeds, soaked, crushed and strained to milk, 500ml water, 1 teaspoon honey

Soak your poppy seeds in hot water for a day or more, changing the water when it becomes too cold. When the seeds are soft, add them to a food processor with some cold boiled water until white liquid escapes. Strain and repeat the process with the remaining seeds. Dilute the drink with some more cold boiled water, stir in your honey and serve.
