excellent rooms but....

'Elegant and luxurious. .rooms gorgeous. ..outdoor pool ' the guidebook said. There is an outdoor pool it was empty. Elegant is not a word i would use to describe a 'Soviet' style concrete and marble block with soulless overpriced dining areas. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable but have poor lighting for reading. There is no outside bar/cafe even though it is out of town in the hills. There is a free bus that runs to the heart of town but it is frequently full. The bus back does not stop in the town centre. However the metro is good and its only 2 stops. On the plus side the staff are charming. And the guidebook did mention a private walking trail. Thank goodness it did as there was no advertising of it in the hotel and the trail is lovely. The Japanese ryokan style accommodation is separate to the main hotel and looked as if it could be described as elegant and luxurious.

You Pay for the Location

Amazing location and good food. I felt everything was a bit pricey however. Rooms are in desperate need of updating and I still couldn't quite believe that my 25 sq ft 'Superior Room' was actually that. Unfortunately didn't have a tape measure to find out and didn't want to ask 'superior to what exactly'. Never stayed in a hotel where you have to pay to use the gym and if you want to use it more than once a day you pay every time. Also they had no apppointments for a back massage in their treatment area, which though pricey I was willing to pay. When I asked for help locating somewhere else in the region that could help ( i hate travelling with back pain) both the treatment people and the conceirge said they couldn't help. The reason being that only other hotels in the area would offer this service and they didn't want to give them my custom. As i don't speak Japanese and didn't know the area I was only looking for some guidance, which was not forthcoming. Left feeling quite irritated with the place despite the amazing views.

Edles Hotel mit japanischem Flair an ruhiger Lage

Äusserst freundliches und sauberes Hotel! Schöne japanische Details, z.B. Schlafgewand. Etwas abgelegen, dafür mit tollem Blick über Kyoto mit Hügeln, Wäldern und Tempeln. trotzdem ist Gion Viertel und Fluss leicht zu Fuss zu erreichen, zudem gibt es alle 20 Minuten einen Shuttle Service zum Bahnhof mit zwei Zwischenhalten (Rückweg vom Bhf ist dann ohne Halt).

Bestes Haus am Platz

Wir waren sehr zufrieden; es blieb kein Wunsch offen. Idealerweise schaut man, dass man ein guenstiges Angebot bekommt, da die Zimmer sonst sehr teuer (aber ihren Preis wert) sind.
