Description

Wander the remarkable ruins of Chichen Itza, an iconic city of the ancient Maya, on this full-day cultural excursion. Explore the sacred temples, grand pyramids and ceremonial sites as you unravel the mysteries of the Mayan civilisation.

Begin your day with a convenient pick-up in a comfortable 16-seat van. Upon arriving at the Mayaland Hotel, you can find an exclusive private entrance to access the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Chichen Itza.

Marvel at the towering Temple of Kukulkán, which stands 75 feet (22 m) high and is adorned with the image of the feathered Maya snake god. Twice a year on each solstice, as the sun hits this dazzling step pyramid at just the right angle, the shadows form a snake that winds down the steps.

From there, walk onto the largest ball court in the Americas, measuring 554 feet (168 m) long and 231 feet (70 m) wide. Stop to ponder the rows of stone pillars in the Temple of a Thousand Columns and gaze into the deep waters of the Tsukan Cenote, a ceremonial site where the Maya made human sacrifices to appease their gods.

Following the comprehensive guided tour and your free time in the area, head back to the Mayaland Hotel for a sumptuous buffet lunch, including live entertainment with traditional Yucatecan music and dances. Enjoy the hotel's facilities, including the refreshing pool, and the lush botanical garden before you return to your Merida, Cancun or Riviera Maya hotel.

The ancient city is more amazing than described in any book or documentary. The people were gracious and welcoming. I’ll be back.

The end of the trip was confusing... we arrived back to Merida and we made a stop that was not planned and I was let off the van near my hotel in a busy traffic intersection.

There was no personalized calendar and it was extremely hot, other tours offered their guests umbrellas to shade them from the heat.
