We venture deeper into the park to explore the San Lorenzo Bay, Mangrove forest and limestone formations.
A local charismatic guide will reveal interesting facts about the park and teach you about medical plants, limestone formations, endemic birds and other interests of Fauna and Flora in this area. We guaranteed you an unforgettable day of adventure that will immerse you in the true essence of what the Dominican Republic has to give.
The national park’s name comes from its original inhabitants, the Taino Indians. In their language “Haitises” translates to highlands or Hills, a reference to the coastline’s steep geological formations with Limestones.
What to Expect:
The trip starts at Caño Hondo Hotels area or from Sabana de la Mar community.
We will hike around 2 hours along the Humid Forest in the Los Haitises National Park. You will learn about the medicinal plants of this area, see the broadleaf rain forest primary and secondary Los Haitises National Park mountains and at the same time reach the spring of the Jivales River from which the waters of the natural pools of Eco-lodge Caño Hondo. (We have also an option of only hiking in the Rain forest for Trekking lovers)
Then we take the equipment required for your safety (Lifejackets, etc), kayaks and going through mangrove swamps. You will see some bird-filled mangroves, rolling hills of lush vegetation. Through the mangroves and Land at the open San Lorenzo Bay, from where you can photograph the rugged forest landscape. The national park’s name comes from its original inhabitants, the Taino Indians. The Tour finishes at the starting point in Los Haitises National Park. We recommend to start early in the morning, because there are not many boats so we have the opportunity to see Manatees and Dolphins.
