Top Spa & Wellness Breaks In the UK

By Frances Doherty on February 29, 2016 in ebookers

I don’t know about you, but I’ve got a serious case of winter blues. The winter makes me yearn for warmth on my skin and my feet in the sand. Time to zone out of the day-to-day grind and forget about the usual stress. Unfortunately, a beach break isn’t on the cards for me this month, but to do my best at unwinding and escaping normality I’m booking in for a luxurious spa break instead.

There’s a good handful of truly spectacular spa and wellness centres throughout the UK that rival any spa abroad, although there won’t be sunshine there will be a nice warm pool, sauna and plenty of relaxation. I seem to spend a lot of time dashing from one thing to the next, so a weekend with nothing to worry about sounds just perfect to me.

I’ve rounded up some of the best spas from a little research! How can you resist wanting to book into one of these?

 Bedford Lodge Hotel & Spa

I’m based near Cambridge so this Newmarket Spa isn’t too far from me, and I’ve heard amazing reviews from friends and family. Housed in a gorgeous Georgian style building, the luxurious 5 bubble spa has all the facilities you could wish for, including a particularly impressive hydrotherapy pool. Book a calming spa weekend and benefit from staying at the beautiful Bedford Lodge four star hotel with a 2AA rosette restaurant for any foodies out there! I’m tempted by the recovery break, hot stone massage? Yes please!

Thermae Bath Spa

I visited Bath last summer but never got round to booking into the well-known Thermae Spa. Located in central Bath, the spa boasts a rooftop pool with spectacular views over the city. You can also book a twilight spa for an evening experience and view the city by night. It does get busy though, and bookings can only be taken for groups of 8 or more so it would be advised to get there early if you’re planning a spa day, especially in peak times over summer!

The Grand Hotel & Spa York

Hailed as the ‘most relaxing spa break in Yorkshire’ the Grand Hotel offers an environment of pure tranquillity. Escape the city and enjoy a treatment from their list of many, including body wraps, deep tissue massages and also a separate list of treatments for men. After your morning of relaxation, you can enjoy a spot of afternoon tea in the hotel, and then why not head back to the Jacuzzi? Sounds like pure bliss.

Heading to the spa for just a day? Check out other York hotels to make a weekend of it.

 Guerlain Spa & Health Club

Spending time in Edinburgh? It’s an amazing city to get lost in for a few days, with plenty to do and stunning architecture to see. The Guerlain Spa is a must visit for your trip to zone out and be truly pampered. Based in the luxurious Waldorf Astoria, if the décor is anything to go by this will be an experience to remember. The mum and daughter days are the perfect gift for upcoming mother’s day, an excuse to treat your mum (and yourself).

The Scarlet Hotel & Spa

A luxury eco hotel on the edge of the Cornwall coast, sounds quite ideal doesn’t it? The location setting couldn’t be dreamier (and totally Instagrammable, ahem) with sea views and fresh air to clear your lungs. It’s the perfect city escape. As well as the usual treatments you would expect from a spa, you can also enjoy their extensive range of packages and experiences. I quite fancy the clifftop hot tub, said to ease sore muscles and not to mention the fact you’ll be enjoying a hot tub with views overlooking the beach.

Has Cornwall caught your eye? View local hotels here.

So it might not be an exotic beach far, far away but a luxurious weekend of pampering, massage and steam rooms can leave you feeling just as calm and relaxed. For a mood booster this January, escape the bleak dreary weather, grab a friend and pack your swimsuit for an unforgettable spa experience.
