Xmas trip to NYC

Just back from a fantastic 5 night stay in the hotel. Great location & very central. The Tick Tock Diner was perfect for meals if you didn't want to go further afield. Our suite was spotlessly clean. Would definitely recommend this hotel & wouldn't hesitate to return.

Grea location ....Shame about the hotel !

Pros: Rachel on reception ....The location
Cons: replying to your guests emails would be a good start
Really disappointed with the New Yorker this time around - ive stayed here in the past and always been happy with the service [Rachel who has a desk next to reception ] is a sweetheart and has looked after us in the past and ensured we had a great stay ....This time however Rachel wasnt there when we checked in and we didnt enjoy our stay nearly as much this time . When we checked in we were given a room with 1 bed that was for a disabled person [Not the 2 beds we had emailed a request for ...but had no reply !] It was grotty and in desperate need of refurbishment and a good clean ...grouting around the bath was black and peeling away and dirty bathroom floor etc ....I immediately went to reception and was told there were no other rooms but could be moved to a 2 bed room the next day but would be charged extra . The receptionist was not very pleasant or helpful on this occasion and after a 12 hour journey i didnt have much choice .The manager called me the following day to discuss and told me after all the issues she would give us the other room at no extra cost and waive any charges on the room .... The next room was much better and i had no issues until we checked out at 5am on day of leaving and was charged 150 dollars taxes .When i queried this with the night manager i was told he would look into it and call me later [I left my contact number at the desk ] Nobody called so i emailed a few days later ....and nobody has bothered replying to the email a week on !!

Style over substance

Pros: The art deck is incredible.
Cons: The city is modernising, the hotel could do the same.
Location: Great location for the Empire state building and Madison square garden, also the metro as well.
This hotel is superbly placed for sight seeing, the art deco all over the hotel is wonderful, sadly this art trend has never been updated. The rooms are quite comfortable but very noisy, from foot traffic outside the room and traffic from the street, we were on the 29th floor and could still hear New York all night long! The hotel could really do with an update, keep the beautiful art deco style but add modern features like sound proofing, doors that fit to cut light pollution into the room and new bathroom facilities. The staff we interacted with we're hit and miss, some went above and beyond expectation others it felt like we were being a burden to them and they half arsed all that they did. Overall not a bad stay, we used the room to get what little sleep we could get whilst seeing the wonderful city.

Nice hotel close to Times square

Pros: The art deco and the friendly staff.
Cons: Response from housekeeping.
Location: The location is brilliant if you want to be in the thick of it.
The staff are friendly and the art deco decoration is unique. When we stayed the hotel was very busy and it took a long time to get things from housekeeping. Also, some friends had breakfast included in the price of their room but they received vouchers to use for part their stay at the diner which is part of the hotel. The voucher only offered a bagel, a cake, orange juice and a hot drink. When they had the breakfast in the hotel restaurant the choice was much wider.

Trying hard

Motivated staff. Great location. Facilities are comfortable, with good light and view from windows. Movies on demand didnt work and hotel services couldnt fix it, even after two days of trying. This indicated some degree of internal organizational problems that need management attention. Overall a very good hotel.

Satisfactory place but tired

Pros: Location was good , and high floors had a good view
Cons: Bathroom was old and small . Stored luggage on the day of departure was charged for at $2 a bag . The door card kept cancelling - perhaps through being near to my phone , but not great.

Not sure I would stay again - OK for a short stay

Pros: Service charge included phone calls home & intergrated dinner
Cons: Rooms are too small
Location: Location is good as it's easy to get to the main tourist points. Metro subway right outside door, Empire State Building a short walk (10 mins)
I have stayed in this hotel a number of times and it's been fine for a short stay if you just need a place to lay your head. Dinner attached (Tick Tock) offers good breakfasts and is handy. Resort fees include unlimited phone calls to anywhere in the world as long as it's a land line which was a good addition. However, the rooms are very small, tiny bathroom and if like me you live out your suitcase be prepared to give up access to one side of the bed. Wardrobe felt like a converted broom cupboard. Hotel is within walking distance of the Empire State and Macey's plus there is a metro station right outside the door and plenty of Taxi's if you need one. The $3 per bag charge for leaving your luggage on your last day is a bit steep but it saves dragging them around with you. It's a bit dated now so would not stay again but it's fine if you're a single stayer.

Great New York Trip

Used this hotel as a fairly central base to visit New York for a pleasure trip. Really great location, you can easily walk to central New York but also have a metro station next to the hotel when needed or if preferred. While some floors / rooms have not been updated our room had and was a pleasant room which was perfectly adequate for our stay in New York. Staff were really friendly and efficient and had no problems during our stay.
